Congratulations to Dr. Zach Johnson (Lenox), recipient of the 2026 IDA New Dentist of the Year Award!

A 2024 graduate of the UI College of Dentistry, Dr. Johnson is being recognized for his leadership, service, and commitment to advancing dentistry. From serving on the IDA Board of Trustees and leading the New Dentist Committee to improving access to care in southwest Iowa as a FIND recipient, he is already making a meaningful impact on the profession and his community.

Last week, the Northwest District Dental Society hosted its first organized social gathering in more than 30 years at the Warrior Hotel rooftop in Sioux City!

Dentists and guests came together to reconnect, network, and share ideas. Special thanks to Dr. Karla Thole-Becktold, Dr. Kiya Stack-Miller, and Prodenco Dental Laboratory for making this memorable evening possible.

Congratulations to Dr. Kobi Voshell on being named a 2026 recipient of the IDA New Dentist of the Year Award! Dr. Voshell is recognized for his outstanding volunteer leadership, dedication to mentoring future dental professionals, and commitment to advancing oral health equity across Iowa.

As chair of the IMOM 2025 local planning committee, he helped lead fundraising, volunteer recruitment, media outreach, and event coordination which contributed to a successful clinic that provided care to more than 1,000 patients in just two days.

Those who worked alongside Dr. Voshell during IMOM praised his positive attitude, humility, and willingness to step into any role needed. His sense of humor helped energize volunteers and create a welcoming environment throughout the event. Colleagues also describe Dr. Voshell as compassionate, hardworking, and deeply committed to serving others.

The IDA congratulates Dr. Voshell on this well-deserved achievement and looks forward to his continued contributions to the profession!

Primary elections are tomorrow, June 2, and every vote matters. From the first open-seat gubernatorial race since 2006 to key races across the ballot, these elections will shape policies impacting dentistry and patient care for years to come. Be sure you’re registered, have declared a party affiliation (you can do it on-site), and are ready to vote!

Visit the Iowa Secretary of State website to find your polling location. Polls are open from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
