The theme of this year’s National Children’s Dental Health Month is “Sealants Make Sense!” Sealants on children’s teeth can help reduce the risk of caries, a form of tooth decay, in molars by up to 80%. Are you remembering to brush your teeth after eating sweets this holiday season? Waiting 30 minutes after eating before brushing is a good rule of thumb to make sure you aren’t damaging the enamel on your teeth. Don’t have a way to brush your teeth soon after eating sweets? Try drinking more water. This will help remove bacteria and increase your saliva production so the sugar doesn’t get stuck as easily to your teeth!

So what’s the deal with flossing? We love it and we want you to as well. Flossing can help get the surfaces of the tooth you cannot reach with your regular brushing, which can prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and even heart disease! It can also help freshen your breath. Trust us when we say it gets easier with practice!
