Remember the heavy lead apron at the dentist? 👀

You may notice we no longer routinely use one during dental x-rays — and believe it or not, that change is actually rooted in updated science and modern imaging technology.

The American Dental Association recently updated its guidelines to state that routine lead aprons and thyroid collars are no longer recommended for dental radiographs. With today’s highly targeted digital imaging, radiation exposure is already extremely low, and protective aprons can sometimes interfere with the image itself — occasionally leading to the need for retakes (which is exactly what we want to avoid).

At our office, we remain deeply committed to the principle of using the least radiation necessary while still gathering the information needed to care for you thoughtfully and thoroughly.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you. Your comfort and trust matter deeply to us 🤍

For many of the women I see in my practice, jaw tension is often dismissed as “just stress.” But the reality is far more complex and, frankly, far more interesting.

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) actually contains hormone receptors. This means it is directly influenced by the hormonal fluctuations within your body. These shifts can affect joint stability, muscle tone, and your inflammatory response in a very real, physiological way.

This is a major reason why symptoms like jaw pain, clenching, or headaches often follow a cyclical pattern or shift during significant transitions like postpartum and perimenopause. What may feel like an isolated dental issue is often reflecting a much broader functional pattern.

In my view, these challenges sit at the intersection of your dental structure, your hormonal influence, and your systemic health. They aren’t something to just “push through.”

If your symptoms feel cyclical or unresolved, it may be worth looking a bit deeper. You deserve clarity in understanding what your body is communicating—and support that considers the whole, beautiful picture of your health.
I’m here to help you begin the process of restoring harmony within your hormones and your TMJ.

A dental hygienist is often seen as someone who simply “does a cleaning.”

But in my practice, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Allie plays a key role in how we care for our patients every day. She’s incredibly attuned to what’s happening in the mouth—tissue health, inflammation patterns, and early signs that can reflect deeper systemic imbalance. That level of observation is a vital part of how we practice biologic dentistry.

In our office, hygiene care, my clinical evaluation, and adjunctive therapies like ozone and laser all work together. Nothing stands alone—we’re always looking at the whole picture of health and how each piece connects.

What I value most is the relationship Allie builds with patients over time. So many meaningful conversations about health start in her chair, where patients feel comfortable enough to slow down, ask questions, and really be heard.

I’m deeply grateful for Allie, and for hygienists like her, who hold such an important and often under-recognized role in how patients experience care 🤍

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is this: the body remembers experiences long before the mind can explain them.

So if you feel uneasy when you walk into a clinic, you’re not alone. That response is your nervous system doing what it’s designed to do—paying attention to what has felt safe or unsafe.

In creating this practice, I hoped to curate a space that helps rewire the experience of a dental office.

Every part of the office is intentional—natural light, plants, soft uplifting music. I see one patient at a time, so nothing ever feels rushed or crowded. A space that feels more like a kitchen or a home than a clinic, so your body has a chance to settle instead of staying on alert.

Because I don’t think dentistry has to feel the way most people expect it to feel.

It can feel welcoming. Calm. Human.

When the nervous system has the opportunity to relax, it opens the door for connection and healing. And that matters, because at the end of the day, I’m caring for the person behind the smile.

And every person deserves a place where they feel safe, seen, and supported. 🌿

I’ve seen time and again that our mouths are the most honest narrators of our health. They don’t just speak in words; they speak in signals.

Often, a whisper of gum inflammation is more than just a local concern—it’s a sign that your body is carrying an extra inflammatory burden. When we address these signals early, we aren’t just “cleaning teeth.” We are working together to lower that stress on your entire system, inviting your body back into its natural state of homeostasis and vitality. 🌿

I believe that true wellness is a joyful collaboration. When we listen to those quiet signals, we clear the path for your ultimate health to shine through.

Quick refresher on how we recommend brushing. It’s not about doing more — just doing a few small things a little differently. Most of it comes down to angle, pressure, and slowing down a bit.

If you’ve ever wondered if you’re doing it “right,” this is a good place to start.

I truly never leave home without these in my bag. 😊

You’ve heard me say this before — after we eat or drink, our enamel is a little softer, which is why I don’t recommend brushing for about 30 minutes. But we still want fresh breath and a healthy oral environment… so this is my go-to instead of gum.

PROtektin™ mints aren’t just “mints.” They’re designed to support the oral microbiome — helping keep harmful bacteria in check while encouraging the beneficial ones. I love that they work with the biology of the mouth, not against it. And they’ve even been clinically studied for biofilm control below the gumline, which is where bigger problems can start.

We don’t usually promote products, and we’re not affiliated — I just share things that genuinely align with how I practice and what I use myself. If you’re curious, we do have a little discount code for our community - just DM!

Healthy habits don’t have to be complicated. 🤍

An article from Johns Hopkins Medicine titled ‘Oral bacterium may promote breast cancer development and spread’ helps illustrate something we consider every day in holistic dental care — the health of your mouth plays a role in overall wellness. While this research doesn’t show direct cause and effect, it’s a thoughtful reminder of why supporting your oral microbiome matters.

If you’d like our Breast Health & Root Canals guide or want to learn more about Bristle oral microbiome testing in our office, feel free to DM us. Taking a mindful, whole‑body approach to oral care can start with understanding your mouth.
