Remember the heavy lead apron at the dentist? đ
You may notice we no longer routinely use one during dental x-rays â and believe it or not, that change is actually rooted in updated science and modern imaging technology.
The American Dental Association recently updated its guidelines to state that routine lead aprons and thyroid collars are no longer recommended for dental radiographs. With todayâs highly targeted digital imaging, radiation exposure is already extremely low, and protective aprons can sometimes interfere with the image itself â occasionally leading to the need for retakes (which is exactly what we want to avoid).
At our office, we remain deeply committed to the principle of using the least radiation necessary while still gathering the information needed to care for you thoughtfully and thoroughly.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, we are happy to talk through them with you. Your comfort and trust matter deeply to us đ¤
