Friday Finish: Give Your Smile a Long-Weekend Head Start 😁🇺🇸

Labor Day weekend is almost here — and enjoying the cookouts, treats, and extra time with family is part of the fun.

One simple smile-friendly rule for the long weekend: enjoy it, but don’t stretch it out all day.

Frequent snacking and sipping on sweet or acidic drinks keeps your teeth exposed for longer periods. Enjoy your favorites with meals when you can, reach for water in between, and no matter how late the evening gets, don’t forget that last brush before bed.

A few simple habits can let you enjoy the weekend without making your smile work overtime.

Have a safe, relaxing, and happy Labor Day weekend from all of us at Staller Dental! 😊

Thursday Question: Brush before breakfast or after? 🪥☀️

It’s one of those little dental questions that has probably crossed your mind.

Brushing before breakfast is a great way to clear away the buildup from overnight and start the day with fluoride on your teeth. Prefer to brush afterward? That’s okay too — but if breakfast includes acidic foods or drinks like citrus or juice, give your mouth some time first.

Waiting about an hour allows saliva to help neutralize the acid and lets enamel begin to reharden before you brush.

The biggest win? Don’t overthink the clock — focus on brushing gently twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and cleaning between your teeth daily.

Here’s to starting the day — and your smile — on the right foot. 😊

World Coconut Day 🥥: Oil pulling — dental fact or social-media hype?

Coconut oil has become a popular part of “natural” dental routines, especially through oil pulling. But while the trend comes with some pretty big promises, the science doesn’t quite match the hype.

There isn’t reliable evidence that oil pulling whitens teeth, reverses cavities, or can replace proven oral-care habits.

If oil pulling is part of your routine, don’t forget the basics that matter most: brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, clean between your teeth daily, and keep up with regular dental visits.

And whenever a new dental trend starts making the rounds online, feel free to ask us. We’re always happy to help separate what’s helpful from what’s hype. 🦷

Hello, September — and National Gum Care Month! 🦷

Healthy smiles aren't just about teeth. Your gums provide the foundation that helps support them every single day.

This month, we'll be sharing simple ways to give your gums a little more attention. A good place to start? Pay attention to changes like bleeding when you brush or floss, tenderness, recession, or persistent bad breath. Those little signs are worth mentioning — even if nothing hurts.

Taking care of your gums today can help protect your smile for years to come.

Here's to a healthy start to September! 😊

Monday Reset: Don’t Carry a Dental Question Into Another Month 🗓️🦷

It’s Monday — and the final day of August.

Before the calendar turns to September, think about the little dental question that has been sitting in the back of your mind.

That spot that feels different.
The filling you’ve been wondering about.
The sensitivity you keep meaning to mention.
The cleaning you still need to schedule.
Or simply a question you’ve never gotten around to asking.

Not every concern means something is wrong, and not everything needs treatment.

Sometimes the best feeling is simply getting an answer.

So as we close out August, give yourself one less thing to wonder about. Ask the question, make the appointment, or put the next step on the calendar.

A new month feels even better when you’re not bringing old question marks with you.

Here’s to finishing August strong — and heading into September with one less thing on your mind. 😊

National Thoughtful Day: Give Someone a Reason to Smile ❤️

Today is National Thoughtful Day — and sometimes the smallest gesture can completely change someone’s day.

Send the text you’ve been meaning to send.
Check in on someone you haven’t heard from lately.
Give the compliment.
Hold the door.
Say thank you — and mean it.
Make a little extra time for someone who needs it.

Thoughtfulness doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Often, it’s simply letting another person know, “I thought of you.”

At Staller Dental & Associates, we spend a lot of time taking care of smiles.

But some of the very best smiles are created outside the dental chair.

So as we head into the weekend, here’s our challenge: do one thoughtful thing for someone else — just because you can.

A little kindness costs nothing. The smile it creates can be priceless.

From all of us at Staller Dental & Associates, have a wonderful, relaxing, and smile-filled weekend! 😊

World Rock Paper Scissors Day: Brushing vs. Flossing — Who Wins? ✊✋✌️🦷

Rock beats scissors.
Scissors beat paper.
Paper beats rock.

But brushing vs. flossing?

Don’t make them compete.

Your toothbrush does a great job cleaning the surfaces of your teeth and along the gumline. But there are tight spaces between teeth that toothbrush bristles simply cannot clean as effectively.

That’s where floss — or another interdental cleaner that works for you — comes in.

For most smiles, the winning combination is simple:

🪥 Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
🦷 Clean between your teeth every day.
💧 And keep water in your corner throughout the day.

No rock. No paper. No scissors.

Your smile wins when the whole team shows up.

Wednesday Bite Check: Does One Tooth Feel Like It Hits First?

Close your teeth together gently.

Does everything meet comfortably — or does one tooth suddenly feel like it gets there before the others?

Sometimes a bite simply feels different for a short time after dental work. Other times, you may notice a tooth feels “high,” sore when chewing, or that you have started shifting your jaw slightly to avoid one particular spot.

The important part is not to keep testing it or trying to make yourself chew around it.

If your bite has noticeably changed, one tooth consistently hits harder than the others, or chewing has become uncomfortable, let us take a look. A quick evaluation can help us determine whether something simply needs monitoring or whether an adjustment or other treatment makes sense.

Your bite should feel natural — not like your teeth are competing for first place.

National Park Service Birthday: Some Things Are Worth Preserving 🌲🦷

Today marks 110 years of the National Park Service — an organization built around protecting and preserving places worth keeping for generations.

We like that word: preserve.

In dentistry, that is often the goal, too.

When a natural tooth becomes damaged, cracked, infected, or heavily worn, removing it is not automatically the only option. Depending on the tooth and the situation, there may be ways to repair it, protect it, or treat the problem while keeping the natural tooth in place.

Not every tooth can — or should — be saved. But when preserving one is a healthy, predictable option, it is worth understanding before making a decision.

If you have been told a tooth needs significant treatment, ask questions. Understand the alternatives. Know what can be saved, what cannot, and why.

Our national parks are worth preserving. So are the natural teeth we can reasonably protect.

National Waffle Day: Grooves Are Great on Waffles — Less Great for Molars 🧇🦷

Happy National Waffle Day!

Those little squares in a waffle are perfect for holding syrup.

Your back teeth have grooves, too — but when food and plaque settle into the deep pits and grooves of a molar, they can be harder for a toothbrush to reach.

That’s one reason dental sealants can be helpful. A sealant is a thin protective coating placed over the chewing surface of certain teeth to help keep cavity-causing debris out of those vulnerable areas.

They’re especially common for children and teens as permanent molars come in, but whether a tooth needs one depends on the individual smile.

So enjoy the waffle.

Just remember: some grooves are better filled with syrup. Others are better protected. 😉
