A decline in testosterone levels can lead to oral health issues like gum recession and tooth loss.

A possible explanation is related to an increased growth of harmful bacteria and blood vessel integrity stimulated by altered hormones (Steffens, Wang, et al., 2015).

It has been also proposed that testosterone could affect the gum defenses against inflammation (Gornstein, Lapp, Bustos-Valdes, & Zamorano, 1999).
