Removal is removal. That is what a lot of offices will tell you about taking out mercury fillings, and it is simply not true. The difference is your health.

When I remove a mercury filling I follow the SMART protocol, Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique. That means a rubber dam, high volume suction, an air filtration system, and a number of other steps to keep you safe. I do not just drill it out like any other filling.

If you are thinking about having your silver fillings removed, ask whoever you choose if they follow SMART. Ask for it by name and ask what steps they take. You deserve a clear answer.

Did you know billions of bacteria live in your mouth, even after brushing?

Some protect you. Others can contribute to inflammation and disease when the balance is disrupted.

THE ORAL PLOT TWIST?
A healthy mouth isn’t bacteria free. It’s a balanced ecosystem!

Because what happens in your mouth doesn’t always stay in your mouth.

You thought it was just teeth. Think again.

When morning sunlight reaches your eyes, it tells the clock in your brain that the day has begun. That signal helps set your circadian rhythm, and when you do it every day, your body starts to find its own natural rhythm again.

Here’s what that morning light helps with:

👉A natural rise in cortisol, so you wake up on your own instead of relying on an alarm
👉 Steadier alertness through the day
👉 Melatonin arriving at the right time at night, so sleep comes more easily

So on your walk to the car or into work, leave the sunglasses in your bag for a few minutes and let that soft morning light in. Just enjoy it, no staring at the sun needed. I’m always looking at the little daily habits that help the whole body feel rested, and this one costs nothing at all. ☀️

Your low testosterone might be a breathing problem.

Your body makes most of its testosterone while you sleep. Deep, uninterrupted sleep is when the surge happens.

Now add snoring. Add sleep apnea. Add waking up three times a night without knowing why.

Every pause in breathing breaks that cycle. Less deep sleep means less testosterone. Less testosterone means more belly fat, more neck fat, and a narrower airway. A narrower airway means worse sleep.

The cycle feeds itself.

Your mouth shows it first. Worn teeth from grinding. A scalloped tongue. Morning jaw tension. Bleeding gums.

And gum disease is linked to double the risk of erectile dysfunction. Inflamed gums often mean inflamed blood vessels.

Before you start testosterone, find out how you breathe at night. Testosterone can make untreated sleep apnea worse.

Fix the sleep. Lift weights. Cut evening alcohol. Treat your gums. Check your labs.

Normal is not optimal.
Listening Beyond Symptoms. Treating Beyond Teeth.

Send this to the man in your life who snores.

Every time I ask patients if they clench their teeth during the day, almost everyone says, “No, never!” 🦷

Why would you think you do not? It feels counterintuitive, but daytime clenching is an invisible habit that happens automatically while driving, typing, or concentrating at a computer.
So here is my challenge for you tomorrow morning between

10:00 AM and 11:00 AM:

Set 5 separate alarms on your phone:

⏰ 10:00 AM
⏰ 10:15 AM
⏰ 10:30 AM
⏰ 10:45 AM
⏰ 11:00 AM

When each alarm rings, freeze and check your mouth immediately. Where are your teeth?
I bet they are touching.

Your teeth are never supposed to touch during the daytime unless you are actively chewing. Healthy resting posture requires a 2-millimeter gap between your upper and lower arches at all times.
When you keep your teeth clamped together, you slowly grind away natural enamel, fracture fillings, and strain your jaw muscles.

We need our teeth for a lifetime. Be mindful, keep them apart, and protect your smile. 🛑

I love your teeth! I want nice, white teeth like yours!” 🦷

Here is the secret: these are not my natural teeth.
They are all full-coverage crowns. And I did not get them to look pretty.

I was a severe night grinder. I ground my teeth so hard that I constantly broke natural enamel, shattered individual crowns, and destroyed my bite. It was a painful, expensive cycle.

The only way to stop the damage was to crown every single tooth at once to rebuild my bite height.

Now, I never sleep without my custom night guard.
Most people swear they do not grind, right up until they split a tooth or face a massive dental bill.
Protect your natural smile before the damage is done. Wear your night guard. 🛑

Did you know… you may be clenching your teeth all day and not even realize it?

Many people associate clenching with sleep, but daytime clenching is incredibly common, especially during stress, concentration, driving, working, or staring at a screen.

When your teeth stay pressed together, your jaw muscles stay activated instead of relaxing. Over time, that constant tension can contribute to headaches, jaw soreness, facial tension, neck discomfort, tooth sensitivity, cracks, and gradually worn down teeth.

Your teeth are not meant to stay together all day. Start checking in with yourself. Are your teeth touching? Is your jaw tight? Are your shoulders tense?

Try this simple reset: Lips together. Rest your tongue on the palate. Teeth apart. Jaw relaxed.

A little awareness throughout the day can protect your teeth, calm your muscles, and help reduce tension headaches that may actually be starting in your jaw.

So many of my patients are living with Lyme and other autoimmune conditions. I see how hard they’ve worked, how many questions they’ve asked, and how long they’ve been searching for answers.

That’s why I was so excited when I heard Wendy Brinkmann from Amen Clinics speak. I now have a place to refer my patients , and what I love most is that they don’t reach for medication first.

They use a brain scan called SPECT, which shows how the brain is working. When I saw a healthy brain, it looked full and even, almost fluffy. When the brain has been affected, the scan shows areas that look like voids. I found it pretty amazing.

I can refer anyone who has signs of:

ADD/ADHD
PTSD
Lyme disease
Dementia
Mold and chemical toxicity from things like paint and fragrances
Alcohol and drug addiction
Traumatic injuries or abuse, both mental and physical

I’ve always believed healing means looking at the whole person. Sometimes the missing piece is in your mouth, and sometimes it’s in your brain. 🧠

I flew to Germany… to go back to school. 🇩🇪

After 22 years of practicing dentistry, you would think I might be done “shadowing” other dentists.

Nope.

Because one of the things I have learned is this:
The moment you think you know enough is probably the moment you stop growing.

I traveled to Tübingen, Germany to spend time at Dr. Dome’s DNA Health & Aesthetics Center and see how biological dentistry is being practiced on another level, not simply treating teeth, but looking at the mouth as part of the entire human system. And THAT is what fascinates me.

Dentistry can be about:
• Removing disease while respecting biology
• Supporting healing before and after surgery
• Nutrition and micronutrients
• Reducing unnecessary toxic burden
• Understanding inflammation
• Looking at materials we place in the body
• Connecting oral health with whole-body health
• And asking the bigger question: WHY is this happening?

Dr. Dome has built much of his work around this oral-systemic philosophy, alongside biological dentistry, ceramic implantology, nutrition, micronutrient therapy and his Bone Healing protocols.

But perhaps my favorite part of traveling to learn is realizing that no country, doctor, dentist or healthcare system has all the answers. We become better when we stay curious.

When we walk into someone else’s office.
Watch how they think.
Ask questions.
See what they do differently.
Take what makes sense.
Question what doesn’t.
And come home with new ideas for the people who trusted us with their health.

So yes… I went all the way to Germany to watch another dentist work 😎. And I would do it again tomorrow. Because after 22 years, I still want to be the student in the room.

That is how we grow.
That is how healthcare evolves.
And ultimately, that is how we become better doctors for our patients.
Never stop learning. Never stop questioning. Never stop looking beyond the teeth.

Listening Beyond Symptoms. Treating Beyond Teeth.
