September is National Gum Care Month, and we want to talk about something that's absolutely foundational to every smile. 🦷

Healthy gums are where everything starts. They're the anchor that holds teeth in place, and they're incredibly important to develop properly from childhood. Gum disease can start early, even in kids, but here's the encouraging part: it's preventable.

How? Consistent brushing (2 minutes, twice a day), daily interdental cleaning (flossing or water flossers), staying hydrated, and those regular cleanings with our hygiene team. At every appointment, we're checking gum color, texture, and how they respond to touch. We catch small concerns before they become big ones.

Strong, healthy gums built early? That's the foundation of a smile that lasts a lifetime.

Let's talk about your child's gum health. We're here.

And just like that, summer is wrapping up. 🌊

To every Baldwin County family heading into a new school year: we hope your kids are excited, your routines are (mostly) figured out, and their smiles are healthy and ready for whatever this year brings.

If we saw you this summer, thank you. If we haven't seen you in a while, there's no better time than right now to get back on the books. We'll be here, same cozy office, same familiar faces, same team that genuinely loves seeing your family walk through the door.

Here's to a great school year. πŸ’™

It's one of the most common questions we get from parents of toddlers: "Should I be worried about thumbsucking?" πŸ€”

Here's the honest answer: for young children, it's a completely normal self-soothing habit. Most kids naturally stop on their own between ages 2 and 4. The concern comes when the habit continues past the point where permanent teeth start to come in, usually around age 6, because that's when prolonged pressure from thumbsucking can start to affect the way teeth and the jaw develop.

If your child is still thumbsucking and you're not sure whether it's something to watch, bring it up at their next visit. We're happy to take a look and give you an honest, personalized answer. No judgment, just information.

Some of our patients have been coming to see us since before they could walk. πŸ₯Ή

That's not an exaggeration. We see children from their very first tooth all the way through age 18, and those long-term relationships are one of the things we treasure most about this practice. By the time a kid is a teenager, they know us. They trust us. They've outgrown their nerves entirely because this place has always felt safe.

Building that kind of trust takes time, consistency, and a team that actually shows up the same way every single visit. We're proud to be that for so many families in Daphne, Spanish Fort, Fairhope, and beyond.

If you're looking for a dental home your child can grow up in, we'd love to be it.

Real talk: the back-to-school checklist is long. Supplies, clothes, physicals, registration. We get it. πŸ“‹
But here's one worth adding if it's not already on there: a dental checkup. Many schools and sports programs actually require a dental exam on file, and even for those that don't, a clean bill of dental health before the school year starts is just a smart move.

We're seeing families right now before the September rush kicks in. Our team takes their time at every appointment, kids leave knowing what's going on with their teeth, and parents leave with answers to questions they didn't even know they had.

One more thing checked off the list. We've got you. πŸ’™

Here's a fun one for the parents of growing kids. 🦷

Did you know children have 20 primary (baby) teeth, and eventually 32 permanent teeth as adults? The process of losing baby teeth and gaining adult ones spans nearly a decade, typically starting around age 6 and wrapping up in the early teens (with wisdom teeth arriving even later).

All of that transition is something we track at every visit. We're watching how teeth are coming in, whether there's crowding developing, and whether the spacing looks healthy. It's one of the reasons we love seeing kids consistently from infancy through age 18 - because we have the full picture, not just a snapshot.

Growth is fascinating. We never get tired of watching it happen. 😊
