Dr. Paul is not only an expert spine surgeon—he’s also an umbraphile, someone with a passion for solar eclipses!

This past week, Dr. Paul and his family experienced the total solar eclipse in Spain, sharing real-time footage with us from the path of totality. The eclipse was especially significant for Spain—it was the country’s first total solar eclipse in more than a century, with the path of totality crossing northern Spain from Galicia through areas including Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country and Aragón.

What an incredible experience to witness with family. Thank you, Dr. Paul, for sharing a glimpse of this amazing moment with us!

🎾 As Wimbledon Wraps Up, Keep Your Game Going Strong: 5 Tips to Help Prevent Tennis Injuries

Inspired by the incredible athleticism we watched over the past two weeks? Whether you’re competing, playing doubles at your local club, or rallying with friends, staying healthy is the best way to keep your game strong.

Here are 5 orthopedic specialist-approved tips to help prevent tennis injuries👇

✅ Warm up first
Spend 10–15 minutes doing dynamic stretches and light movement before hitting the court.

💪 Strengthen your core, shoulders & hips
A strong foundation improves power, balance, and helps protect against injury.

⏱️ Prioritize recovery
Too much tennis without enough rest can lead to overuse injuries like tennis elbow and shoulder tendonitis.

👟 Wear proper tennis shoes
Supportive court shoes provide stability during quick cuts and pivots. Replace them when the tread wears down.

⚠️ Don’t ignore pain
Persistent pain is your body’s way of telling you something isn’t right. Early evaluation can prevent a minor injury from becoming a major setback.

“As both an active tennis player and an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, I understand the physical demands tennis places on the body. Many of the injuries I treat—from tennis elbow and shoulder tendonitis to knee pain and ankle sprains—are preventable with proper conditioning, recovery, and early treatment.” — Dr. Thacher

If pain is affecting your game, the Sports Medicine specialists at OrthoConnecticut are here to help you get back on the court.

🎾 Play smart. Recover well. Stay in the game.
