The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system.
Most people know this abstractly. Most dental care doesn't treat it that way.
I've been thinking about the oral microbiome for years, long before it became a wellness conversation. And what I keep coming back to is this: the mouth is not a separate room. It's the front door.
What lives in your mouth travels. The bacteria, the inflammation, the imbalance, it doesn't stay behind your teeth. And yet most dental appointments end with a cleaning and a recommendation for whitening, with no conversation about what's actually driving the biofilm, the gum changes, the recurring sensitivity.
That conversation is available here.
If your gut health practitioner, your naturopath, or your functional medicine doctor has never mentioned your oral microbiome, mention it to them. And if you want a dentist who already has that conversation in mind — come see me.
