We celebrated our tenth anniversary this past week. I can’t believe how fast the last decade has flown by. The office was a shell of four smaller units that had been vacant for a while. We had to gut it to the studs. I faced a lot of challenges in the beginning dealing with a difficult foundation and a more difficult landlord. Then there was all the contractors and subcontractors that were constantly changing things on me. There were many many challenges, but many lessons were learned as well. My favorite (and most honest) person to work with was the muralist. We somehow got through it all, like most of us do when we really want something. I was working two other jobs at the time. I owe a lot to Cynthia who was there every day answering phones and getting the office organized and ready. We had four patients on our first day - 3 of which still come to our office! I can’t say the same for all the plants I originally bought to maintain the safari theme. It was great being able to have Robbie there every day.! Unfortunately he passed away in February. I’m grateful I was able to spend more time with him after building the office. He kept me company when I’d come to the office on the weekends to do admin work. The building is being torn down in 2027 so this will be our last anniversary here. But we won’t be going far and I hope to build an even nicer environment for our patients. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey and trusting us with your children. It’s been an absolute joy watching our little patients grow into confident young adults. 🙏🏾
