Lakewood Orthodontics

Lakewood Orthodontics Since 1991, Dr. Patricia Simon has been serving up smiles as a dedicated orthodontist in Lakewood at Lakewood Orthodontics!

As an orthodontist in Lakewood with over 25 years of practice experience, Dr. Patricia Simon blends art and science to help you and your child achieve a beautiful, straight, and healthier smile. She believes that your smile is a work of art, which means it deserves to be treated that way. To her, orthodontics perfectly blends art and science, allowing her to help her patients achieve a smile that

is both healthy and easy to show off! After graduating from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine for her dental degree, she completed her orthodontic residency at Boston University and eventually became board-certified through the American Board of Orthodontics. When she’s not serving her patients or pursuing continuing education, you can find her restoring homes and exploring the history of the city with her husband Kyle. In fact, she spent three and a half years restoring her own home located in the Peak Suburban Historic District of Dallas.

Cold and flu season is upon us! If you’re sick, should you change out your toothbrush? How often should you change your toothbrush anyway?

In most cases, you don’t need to change out your toothbrush if you’ve been sick. That’s what your immune system is for…you have antibodies to fight the infection.

However, the virus that causes cold sores (herpes simplex virus) is very contagious. If you’ve had a cold sore, or if you are immunocompromised, you should change your toothbrush to avoid reinfection.

If you share a toothbrush holder with others, all toothbrushes (or toothbrush heads) should be replaced.

The means of toothbrush sanitation is understudied, but UV light and hydrogen peroxide might be helpful.

Toothbrushes ( or toothbrush heads) should be replaced every 3-4 months or as soon as the bristles are frayed. Braces are harder on toothbrush bristles, causing the need for more frequent replacement.

Stay healthy for the holidays!

You may not need to throw out your toothbrush every time you get sick. Learn how to keep your toothbrush as germ-free as possible.
