What do you really need to know about your silver fillings? 🦷

Many patients have had mercury amalgam fillings for years—sometimes decades—without ever having another conversation about them. Then they hear conflicting information and are left wondering: Should I keep them? Should I have them removed? And if I do, how can it be done safely?

At Central Dentist, our goal isn’t to tell you what decision to make. It’s to help you understand your individual situation.

We can evaluate your existing amalgam fillings, discuss whether keeping or replacing them is appropriate, and review mercury-free, biocompatible alternatives when replacement is recommended.

And if you do choose to have an amalgam filling removed, how it is removed matters.

If removal is appropriate, our team follows the IAOMT SMART Mercury Removal Protocol, designed to help reduce unnecessary mercury exposure and prioritize safety for both the patient and dental team throughout the procedure.

Have silver fillings that have been in your mouth for years—or even decades? 🦷

You may be starting to wonder what they’re made of, whether there are alternatives, and what you should know before considering removal.

Those are important questions.

At Central Dentist, we believe what goes into your mouth matters. That’s why our approach to restorative dentistry prioritizes biocompatible materials and whole-body health.

🌿 Mercury-free since 2009
🌿 Fluoride-free restorative materials
🌿 BPA-free, tooth-colored composites

And if you’re considering replacing existing mercury amalgam fillings, how they’re removed matters, too.

Our team is SMART Certified through the IAOMT and follows specific protective measures designed to reduce mercury exposure during amalgam removal.

You don’t have to make a decision today. Start by empowering yourself with information.

Have you ever wondered what’s happening beneath those silver fillings? 🦷

Maybe they have been there for years—or even decades—and no one has talked with you about them recently.

Silver amalgam fillings contain mercury. While an intact filling does not automatically mean it is causing a health problem, we believe you deserve to understand what is in your mouth and how it may relate to your overall health.

If removal is something you would like to explore, our SMART-certified team uses specialized protective measures designed to minimize mercury exposure throughout the procedure. We can begin by looking at which fillings are the oldest, largest, or showing signs of breakdown—then talk through a plan that feels comfortable and manageable for you.

No pressure and no one-size-fits-all answer—just a thoughtful conversation about your health, your concerns, and your options.

Not sure how old your silver fillings are or whether they should be evaluated? Give us a call. We would be happy to take a look and help you better understand your next steps.

What if impacted wisdom teeth don’t automatically have to come out? 🦷

Dr. Sawnani shares an interesting case involving partially bony impacted wisdom teeth.

The patient wanted to preserve her wisdom teeth—especially after orthodontic treatment had expanded her arch and created adequate space. The challenge? The teeth remained partially impacted, creating areas for food trapping and increasing the risk for decay and inflammation.

Rather than immediately taking the traditional route of extraction, Dr. Sawnani explored a more conservative approach.

By carefully removing excess tissue and slightly slenderizing the teeth to create additional space, he was able to encourage them to erupt naturally into the arch.

Just 4–5 months later:
🦷 #17 is fully erupted
🦷 #32 is approximately 80% erupted
🦷 The wisdom teeth are being preserved in the arch and becoming functional

At Central Dentist, we understand that treatment isn’t always one-size-fits-all. When clinically appropriate, our doctors look for thoughtful solutions that consider the patient’s goals while protecting long-term oral health.

Have you been told your wisdom teeth need to be removed?
Schedule a clinical evaluation with Dr. Sawnani to discuss your individual needs and treatment options.
