Meet Dr. Peter Pham. โš•๏ธ

For most of the last twenty-six years, when a patient needed an implant or a difficult extraction, Dr. Boxwalla referred them out. Now he doesn't have to.

Dr. Pham earned his DDS at UT Health San Antonio, then pursued advanced training in implant surgery at the Misch Implant Institute โ€” one of the most respected implant programmes in the field. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and he is certified in IV conscious sedation.

What that means in practice:

โ€ข Your implant is planned and placed in the same building where your crown will be made and fitted
โ€ข Wisdom teeth and complex extractions are handled here, not referred across Houston
โ€ข If the thought of any of it makes you anxious, IV sedation is genuinely available โ€” not just nitrous
โ€ข Your dentist of twenty-six years and your surgeon look at the same records and talk to each other about your case

An implant is a twenty-year decision. It's worth having it placed by someone who does this all day.

If you're missing a tooth, or you've been told you need an extraction and you're dreading it โ€” come and have a conversation first. No commitment, and we'll tell you what your plan actually covers before you decide anything.

"I was nine when I first sat in that chair. Last month I brought my son." ๐Ÿค

This is the part of twenty-six years that we're actually proud of.

Dr. Boxwalla now treats the children of patients he first met when they were children themselves. Some of them he's watched go through braces, then college, then their first job, then bring in a nervous five-year-old of their own.

He knows their family history. He knows which parent's teeth they inherited. He knows that this family runs late and to book them first thing.

You can't buy that, and you can't open a practice and have it. It only exists if nobody leaves โ€” the dentist, the hygienists, the assistants, the front desk. Ours haven't.

In a market where practices get bought by groups and dentists rotate through every couple of years, we think that's worth something. Our patients seem to agree, because they keep bringing us their kids.

Shared with our patient's permission, and with our thanks. ๐Ÿค

Eleven years of looking at Cypress gums. Here's what she wishes everyone knew. ๐Ÿชฅ

September is Gum Care Month, so we asked one of our hygienists โ€” who has been here long enough to have cleaned some of these teeth more than twenty times โ€” what people most often talk themselves out of.

1๏ธโƒฃ Pink in the sink. Bleeding when you brush isn't because you're brushing too hard. It's inflammation. Healthy gums don't bleed.
2๏ธโƒฃ Bad breath that comes back within an hour of brushing. Usually bacteria living below the gumline where a toothbrush can't reach.
3๏ธโƒฃ Teeth that look longer than they used to. Recession happens slowly enough that you'll never spot it in your own mirror โ€” but someone who has been looking at your gums for eleven years will.
4๏ธโƒฃ Tender gums, or gums that have gone a deeper red.
5๏ธโƒฃ Any tooth with a little movement in it. That one is never normal in an adult.

The difficult thing about gum disease is that it's painless right up until it isn't, which is why it's the leading cause of adult tooth loss. The good news is that caught early it's very treatable โ€” often with nothing more than a deeper clean and a change of routine.

Worth knowing too: gum inflammation is associated with cardiovascular health and blood sugar control. This isn't only a mouth issue.

If you recognised more than one, book a check. We'll show you exactly what we're seeing on the intraoral camera and you can decide from there.

Best Doctor Five years in a row. Twenty-six years in the same chair. ๐Ÿ†

We don't post about awards very often. But they represent something important: a commitment to continually learning and improving. What matters most isn't the recognitionโ€”it's how that knowledge helps every patient who trusts us with their smile.

Dr. Boxwalla trained at the University of Michigan โ€” one of the top dental programmes in the country โ€” and has continued his learning for all the twenty-six years that he has been serving the Cypress families.

The minimum continuing education required to keep a dental licence in Texas is twelve hours. He has taken several hundred. That's not a boast about hours; but highlights the fact that dentistry changes constantly, and continuing education helps Dr. Boxwalla bring latest techniques and knowledge to the families he dearly cares for.

He's a member of the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Greater Houston Dental Society.

And the part he'd actually want in this post: he'd rather explain the options and let you decide than tell you what you're having. That's how he's practised for twenty-six years and it's why people stay.

Remember the tray full of pink goop? ๐Ÿคฎ

Neither do our patients.

Many crowns, aligners, retainers, night guards, and other restorations can now be captured with a digital scan instead of traditional impressions. A few minutes, nothing to bite into, nothing to gag on, and you get to watch your own teeth build on the screen while it happens.

It's also simply better dentistry. Digital scans can reduce the errors sometimes associated with traditional impression materials, resulting in more accurate restorations, fewer remakes, and fewer return visits.

Dr. Boxwalla has taken several hundred hours of continuing education against a twelve-hour state minimum. This is what that's for โ€” not certificates on a wall, but the fact that a crown fits properly the first time.

If your last impression involved a tray and a countdown, it's been too long. ๐Ÿฆฟ

The best mouthguard is the one your athlete actually keeps in during the game. ๐Ÿˆ

The boil-and-bite from the sporting goods aisle is certainly better than no mouthguard at allโ€”but it's not the same as one designed specifically for your child's smile.

It's bulky, it loosens as they play, and since they're often bulkier, many kids take them out to talk or breathe more comfortably โ€” and a guard sitting in a gym bag protects nothing at all.

A custom guard is digitally scanned to your child's exact bite. Thinner, stays put, they can breathe and speak in it, so it stays in their mouth where it belongs.

Here's the arithmetic nobody wants to do: A knocked-out permanent tooth can require complex and costly treatment that lasts well beyond the game. A custom guard is a fraction of that, once.

Football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, skateboarding โ€” if there's contact, there should be a guard.

Get your athlete game-ready before the first whistle. Book your appointment today.

The back-to-school list nobody hands you ๐Ÿ“š

Dr. Boxwalla has watched twenty-six Augusts go past in Cypress, and it's the same four things every year.

1๏ธโƒฃ Book the checkup before the first week of school. A cavity caught in August is a filling. The same cavity in December is a root canal โ€” and by December you're competing with every other family in Cy-Fair for an appointment.

2๏ธโƒฃ Sealants on the six-year and twelve-year molars. Those two teeth take the most decay in childhood and they're protected in one short, painless visit.

3๏ธโƒฃ The sports physical form is required. The mouthguard isn't โ€” and it's the part that actually protects the teeth.

4๏ธโƒฃ If they're seven or older, one orthodontic screening. Not to start treatment. Just so someone qualified has looked at how the jaw is developing while there's still time to influence it.

CFISD goes back in a matter of days. We have same-day appointments open this week.

Save this nowโ€”you'll thank yourself the week before school starts. Then send it to another parent who'll appreciate the reminder. ๐Ÿ“Œ
