🦷 FAQ: At What Age Should My Child See an Orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7.
Why so early? An evaluation at age 7 allows us to identify developing orthodontic problems while a child is still growing. Most children do not need braces at this age, but early evaluation helps us determine whether treatment is needed now, later, or if we should simply monitor growth and tooth eruption over time.
⭐ Here's a great example!
We have been monitoring this patient for several years. During a routine growth and eruption check, we noticed that his permanent canine teeth were not developing in the ideal position. We recommended the extraction of two baby canine teeth to help guide the permanent canines into the correct path of eruption.
The result? With two quick and simple baby tooth extractions, his permanent canine teeth are now in the proper position to erupt naturally, potentially avoiding a much more complicated problem in the future!
Early orthodontic evaluations aren't always about starting treatment. They're about making sure your child's smile develops as healthy and efficiently as possible.
