Dr. Farr spent this past weekend in Phoenix at the SOLEA Laser Conference, exploring the latest in dental laser technology so we can bring even more comfortable, modern care to our patients. He was joined by our friend and neighbor, Ideal Dentistry - Dr. Richard A. Neal II DMD. It’s always great to learn alongside colleagues who share our passion for patient care!

Instead, here are three easy ways to play a little defense with your family's teeth this Halloween:
1. Choose chocolate over sticky or hard candy. Chocolate washes off teeth much faster, while sticky or hard candies linger in grooves and can even crack enamel.

"Do I really need to come in every six months?"

It's a fair question, and here's the honest answer: for most people, yes — but not for the reason you'd assume.

It's not about the polish. It's that six months is roughly how long it takes for a small problem to become an expensive one. A cavity caught early is a filling. The same cavity found eighteen months later can be a root canal and a crown.

Some patients need more frequent visits, some fewer. During a cleaning, we can quickly tell which one you might be.

It's 9pm on a Saturday, and the worse case scenario happens. A tooth emergency.

But what do you do?

Knocked-out tooth: pick it up by the crown, never the root. Rinse gently with water. Put it back in the socket if you can, or keep it in milk. Call us immediately — time is everything here.

Cracked or broken tooth: rinse with warm water, cold compress on the outside of the cheek, don't chew on that side.

Severe toothache: warm salt-water rinse, floss around it in case something's lodged, over-the-counter pain reliever. Call us.

And a note worth knowing: hospital ERs generally can't treat the dental problem itself. They'll manage the pain and refer you to a dentist. Calling us first usually saves you a night and a bill.
