Some research shows people who flossed at least once a week had a lower risk for strokes caused by blood clots coming from the heart. They also had a lower risk for atrial fibrillation, or AFib, an irregular heart rhythm that can lead to a stroke.

Flossing can help prevent gum disease and oral infections. These are linked to inflammation, which may contribute to hardened arteries and a higher risk of stroke. The research is preliminary, but there’s really no downside to adding flossing to your healthy routine.

Dr Moreau was reunited with dear friend and former fellow LSU School of Dentistry Professor the great Gerard Chiche.
Dr Chiche being the first resident of former MoreSMILES Dental’s now retired associate of 20 years, the renowned Dr Israel Finger, started his climb to excellence while Dr Moreau was a second-year doctorate student at LSUSD. They later taught dental students together for 7 years until Dr Moreau left to focus on his Northshore practice.
Recognized world wide as an amazing cosmetic clinician, innovator of techniques, and gatherer of concepts that he has passed on to thousands of dentists, he has always been an inspiration and standard for Dr Moreau.
Originally from Paris, France, he is now back in New Orleans after directing an elite residency program in Georgia.
They discussed Dr Moreau lecturing to Dr Chiche’s current residents soon.

MoreSMILES Dental was a proud sponsor today, partnering with the Al Copeland Foundation, to raise money for cancer research. Popeye's founder Al Copeland lost his life in 2008 to Merkel Cell Carcinoma, a rare but aggressive form of skin cancer that, in Copeland's case, metastisized to his salivary gland.

The Al Copeland Foundation is committed to eradicating cancer through research, education, clinical trials and immunotherapy. "Cocktails For a Cause" added funds to the coffers today to advance that research and provide financial support to cancer patients. Due to a medication that came directly from the research funded by this organization, Al Copeland Jr. (pictured here with Dr. Jim and Julie Moreau), says the survival rate today is 68%. The medication extended Jimmy Buffet's life by four years.

Today's Margarita-themed tropical event was held at the popular Covington restaurant, Bon Sake, coincidentally owned by a former MoreSMILES dental assistant, Jamie, and her husband Rodney Bonsack, also a cancer survivor. Jamie worked with us for several years, including 2009-10 when we provided performance mouthguards for the New Orleans Saints (the year they won the Superbowl!!)

For over 40 years, Dr. Moreau has been screening patients for oral cancer at every continuing care hygiene visit. Have we found oral cancer in our patients? Yes!!! This is why it's so important to have a thorough oral exam 1 to 2 times a year for screening and early detection. The routine MoreSMILES oral exam includes salivary gland function, lymph nodes, thyroid, and voice box palpation and function.
