If you've been telling yourself you'll deal with the missing tooth later, this is the video to watch.

There is no good reason to wait. The moment a tooth is gone, bone loss begins. The longer the gap sits empty, the more the jaw shrinks underneath it. Once that bone is gone, regrowing it is incredibly difficult. At that point a bridge becomes the only option, which means shaving down healthy teeth on either side just to fill the space.

On top of that, the surrounding teeth start to shift into the open gap. What could have been one straightforward implant appointment now requires orthodontics first, then the implant. More time, more cost, more steps that were completely avoidable.

Why do dentures fail?

Why Dr. Saghatchi doesn't recommend partial dentures and what actually happens when you go that route.

On the surface, a partial denture seems like an affordable, fast fix. It fills the gap, gives you a smile, and you walk out the same day. Here's what happens after that.

Those metal hooks that hold the partial in place latch onto your remaining healthy teeth. Every time you chew, every time you remove it, every time you put it back in, those hooks are putting force and stress on the teeth they're anchored to. Over time those anchor teeth weaken and eventually fail. So now you've lost more teeth. The partial gets bigger. The hooks grab onto new teeth. And the cycle continues until there's nothing left to anchor to and you end up needing a full mouth solution anyway.
The whole time this is happening, bone loss is continuing underneath because nothing is replacing the root. Your jaw is shrinking with every tooth lost.

What started as avoiding an implant becomes a full arch reconstruction that could have been prevented from the very beginning.
