Haven’t worn your retainer in a while? Let’s talk tooth memory.

Your teeth have a “memory” — meaning they naturally want to shift back to their original positions after treatment. Without your retainer holding them in place, they can start to move in just a few days, especially right after braces or Invisalign.

How fast can shifting happen?
• As soon as a few days post-treatment
• Noticeable changes can happen in as little as 1-2 weeks
• The longer you wait, the harder it may be to realign them without further treatment

Why retainers matter:
Your retainer is the final phase of treatment — it locks in all the hard work we did to get your smile aligned. Think of it as your smile’s insurance policy!

Haven’t worn it in a while? Here’s what to do:
1. Try it on — if it still fits (even if snug), start wearing it again consistently.
2. If it doesn’t fit or feels too tight, don’t force it — call our office right away. We can check for shifting and discuss options (like a new retainer or touch-up treatment).
