In fact, some cavities can develop in places that are difficult to see, like between the teeth or in the deep grooves of the back molars. That's why regular dental exams and, when appropriate, X-rays are so important. They allow us to catch small problems early, before they turn into bigger ones.

Routine checkups aren't just about cleaning teethβ€”they're about helping your child maintain a healthy smile and avoiding more extensive treatment down the road.

Is your child due for their next cleaning? We'd love to help keep their smile healthy!

Who would’ve guessed?

Goldfish crackers can stick to your child’s teeth longer than chocolate! πŸ§€πŸŸ

That doesn’t mean they’re off-limitsβ€”it just means good brushing, daily flossing, and regular dental visits are more important than ever for keeping little smiles healthy.

Baby teeth do a lot more than hold a spot for adult teeth.

They help children chew properly, speak clearly, and guide permanent teeth into the correct position. When a baby tooth is lost too early due to decay, it can sometimes create problems down the road.

That’s why we take baby teeth seriouslyβ€”they play a big role in your child’s healthy smile.

As a pediatric dentist, this is one of the questions I get from parents all the time.

My answer? For everyday hydration, water wins every time.

Many sports drinks contain added sugars and acids that can increase the risk of cavities and slowly wear away tooth enamel. While they may have a place for athletes during exercise, most kids don't need them for everyday activities.

Water helps keep kids hydrated without exposing their teeth to unnecessary sugar or acid. It's also one of the easiest ways to support a healthy smile between dental visits.

If your child does have a sports drin save it for when it's truly needed and follow it with water to help rinse the teeth.

Have questions about protecting your child's teeth? We'd love to help at your next visit. πŸ¦·πŸ’™

Good newsβ€”you don’t have to cut out sweets completely!

One of the easiest ways to help protect your child’s teeth is to serve treats with a meal instead of letting them snack on sugary foods throughout the day.

Every time we eat something sugary, the bacteria in our mouths produce acids that can lead to cavities. The more often your child snacks, the more often those acids are at work.

So let them enjoy the treat, have a drink of water afterward, and then get back to their normal routine.

Remember, it’s not about being perfectβ€”it’s about building healthy habits over time. And if you ever have questions about your child’s smile, we’re always here to help!

As a pediatric dentist, there are a few habits I would never recommendβ€”whether you’re a kid or a parent!

– Don’t wait until something hurts to schedule a dental visit. Many dental problems don’t cause pain until they’ve already gotten worse.

– Your teeth are for chewing food, not opening packages! Using them as tools can lead to chips and cracks.

– Never skip brushing before bed. Plaque and cavity-causing bacteria love to stick around overnight, so brushing before sleep is one of the most important parts of your child’s routine.

If you have questions about your child’s oral health, our team is always happy to help!

One of the biggest surprises for parents is that cavities aren’t just about eating candy or junk food.

What your child drinks, how often they snack, and even brushing before bed can have a bigger impact than the occasional sweet treat.

If you prioritize regular brushing, flossing, and cleanings, then you’re already in great shape!

Set up your kids’ next cleaning, and we’ll get you taken care of!

IS…. Giving your child juice, milk, or a sugary snack right after brushing before bed.

After brushing, the goal is to let those clean teeth stay clean overnight. If your child is thirsty after brushing, water is the best choice.

Have questions about brushing? Give us a call, we’d love to chat!
