The Academy of General Dentistry News:
"DrBicuspid reported that a study published in the Journal of Dentistry found regular flossing is associated with a nearly 30% reduction in all-cause mortality risk. The study, led by Dr. Kai-yan Wang from The Fourth Military Medical University, analyzed data from 10,609 patients and identified an inverse dose-response relationship between flossing frequency and mortality risk. Patients with periodontitis who did not floss had the highest mortality risk, while those who flossed showed a reduced risk. The study highlights flossing as a low-cost preventive habit, though it acknowledges limitations such as self-reported flossing behavior."

Can one oral hygiene habit really extend your life? New research says yes.

We speak to our patients about the importance of interdental flossing/brushing every day and explain the oral-systemic connection for overall wellness.
Our office now carries samples and items for purchase from the Curaprox system. This is an interdental brush system that can be custom sized for all of your teeth and is great for those who struggle with floss or have wider spaces between their teeth to remove bacteria effectively where the tooth brush cannot reach.

Here is some information from the Curaprox website:
"Your mouth leads to your heart! Your gums are closely connected to your bloodstream. When plaque builds up between your teeth, your gums get inflamed. And that inflammation doesn't just stay there. It travels."

“Dental calculus or tartar on your teeth can be one of the easiest ways to spot signs that you are at risk of a heart attack,” says Steven Lin, dentist and author of The Dental Diet.
