Fluoride: a simple guide for parents 🦷✨
Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps strengthen enamel and protect teeth from cavities. It works by making teeth more resistant to acid attacks and even helping to repair early signs of decay.
From our perspective at Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, fluoride is one of the most effective, evidence-based tools we have for preventing cavities in children. We often recommend it as part of routine preventive care—along with good brushing, healthy habits, and regular dental visits.
Fluoride is safe when used appropriately and can be found in toothpaste, drinking water in many communities, and professional treatments in the dental office. It is also found in many of the foods and beverages we ingest on a daily basis!
Think of it as an extra layer of protection for your child’s smile!🦷💙

Mouth breathing: why it matters 👃🦷
Mouth breathing can impact more than just the mouth and may be a sign of underlying issues that should be evaluated.
Early detection is key, since long-term habits can affect growth, sleep, and overall health.
At Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, we screen for early signs and, when needed, collaborate with other specialists and professionals from a multidisciplinary approach.

✨ April marked 6 months of Columbus Pediatric Dentistry! ✨

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been seeing our patients return for their 6-month checkups with smiles, confidence, and excitement to visit the dentist again. 💙

Watching children feel comfortable, happy, and even excited to come to our office reminds us why we started this practice in the first place. Every high five and smile is proof that we are living out our mission, vision, and values each day.

At Columbus Pediatric Dentistry, we are passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where children and families feel supported, cared for, and empowered through prevention and education — while making dental visits fun and far less scary. 🦷✨

Thank you to our amazing patients and families for trusting us with your children’s smiles. We are so grateful to be part of this community and cannot wait for all that’s ahead! 🌊💙

🦷✨ Tuesday Tooth Tip ✨🦷

Did you know tooth decay is one of the most common childhood diseases — even more common than the common cold? 🍭🥤

One simple way to protect little smiles is by limiting sticky, sugary snacks and drinks. Frequent sugar exposure can increase the risk of cavities, especially in growing teeth!

Instead, encourage:
⭐ Water between meals
⭐ Healthy snack choices
⭐ Brushing 2x daily with fluoride toothpaste
⭐ Regular dental visits starting at age 1

Healthy habits early on help create strong, confident smiles for life! 🌊💙

Cavities: what causes them & how we help 🦷✨

A common myth is that cavities are caused by sugar alone—but it’s more complex than that. Cavities are the most common chronic childhood disease. Kids are more prone because their enamel is thinner and their brushing skills are still developing.

Here’s some tips on how you can help as parents, and how we help as your provider.

✨ A special visit + a big milestone for our office ✨

One of Dr. Harvey’s dear friends from dental school made the trip from Lincoln to Columbus to have his daughter’s maxillary frenum evaluated and treated — and Emmy did AMAZING! She was all smiles by the end of her visit - especially after earning her orange popsicle! 🧡

We’re so excited to share that Columbus Pediatric Dentistry is now offering lip and tongue tie releases using the LightScalpel laser. This is an advanced CO2 laser technology allowing for precise, quick, minimally invasive procedures with a smoother healing process. ✨

We love collaborating with multidisciplinary providers to thoughtfully determine if this is the right treatment for your child and to support the best possible outcome. Being able to provide this next level of care to families in our community means so much to us!🦷💫

We had so much fun at Healthy Kids Day at the Columbus Fieldhouse today! 💙🦷✨

Thank you to all the families who stopped by to say hi, learn about healthy smiles, and spend time with sweet Nala! She got to sub in for our furry friend, Eden, who couldn’t make it in today. Nala loved all the pets and cuddles!🐾

If you snapped a picture with Nala, be sure to tag us—we’d love to see your photos! 📸💙
