Welvista

Welvista A nonprofit providing free medicine to uninsured adults & dental care to underserved children in SC. Food or Medicine?

As costs of prescription medicines continue to rise and the numbers of uninsured reach all-time highs, providing a cost-effective source for life-sustaining and life-saving prescription medications becomes critical to the low-income uninsured. The number one chronic illness in children is tooth decay, 51 million school hours annually are missed due to dental related pain or infections. Through edu

cation, prevention and restorative dental services and access, Welvista makes a difference. Welvista exists to provide prescription medications at no cost to the low-income uninsured. That is the stark choice that more and more low-income uninsured individuals face. No individual should have to choose between food or medicine.

We’re proud to recognize HOPE of Rock Hill, a trusted community referral partner that has been serving our neighbors since 1975. For decades, HOPE of Rock Hill has connected individuals and families in crisis with critical resources like food and utility assistance, helping ensure no one faces hardship alone.

Through our partnership, HOPE of Rock Hill also works alongside us to support community members in need of medication assistance. To make access even easier, our Community Advocate Linda Stewart is on-site once a week, meeting directly with clients and helping them sign up for the program.

We’re incredibly thankful for organizations like HOPE of Rock Hill that help us bridge the gap and strengthen the wellbeing of our community. 💙

This month, we are proud to recognize the Alston Wilkes Society as our featured Partner of the Month.

Guided by their mission, “Rebuilding Lives for a Safer Community,” Alston Wilkes Society provides critical support to veterans and their families, individuals involved in the justice system, and at-risk youth and adults. Their work is grounded in person-centered, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed care, ensuring every individual is treated with fairness, and compassion.

Their commitment to meeting people where they are is what makes this partnership so meaningful. Together with Welvista, we are helping expand access to essential medications through the MAP -Medication Assistance Pharmacy at no cost, improving health outcomes and strengthening communities.

We are grateful for their ongoing impact and look forward to continuing to grow this important partnership.

💙 Care for the Caregiver 💙

This is the heart of our mission. When patients have access to the medications they need, they’re able to stay healthy, support their families, and keep moving forward. For 35 years, MAP has been proud to stand in that gap—because no one should have to choose between their health and their responsibilities.

💙🦷 A Smile Worth Sharing 🦷💙

A parent once told us, “My daughter, Alayna, is a student at Varnville Elementary School and we have used the Smiles for a Lifetime dental program… once for a cleaning and then again for a filling." They went on to describe that Alayna was terrified of going to the dentist. Alayna told her parents that after her cleaning she never wanted to go anywhere else for tooth issues.

Stories like Alayna’s are why we do what we do. Turning fear into comfort. Tears into confidence. And dental visits into positive experiences that build healthy habits for life.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s smile. 💫✨ Be sure to sign the consent form so we can help your child! Visit: https://www.welvista.org/dental-patients/ for more information and the online consent form link.

🦷💬 Mouthwash Advice with Dr. Collins

Dr. Collins explains why mouthwash is a helpful addition — but not a substitute — for brushing and flossing.

While mouthwash can freshen breath and help reduce bacteria, it doesn’t provide the mechanical action needed to remove plaque and food debris from the surface of your teeth. If plaque isn’t physically brushed away, it can harden into calculus and increase the risk of cavities and gum disease.

Flossing is just as important because it cleans between teeth and below the gumline — places your toothbrush simply can’t reach. Dr. Collins also notes that many mouthwashes contain alcohol, which can dry out the mouth and actually increase bacteria over time.

If you’re in a pinch, mouthwash can offer short-term freshness — but it should always be used alongside daily brushing and flossing, not in place of it.

Healthy routines lead to healthy, cavity-free smiles. 😁✨

Today we celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and mother-figures who hold our families and communities together. 💐

Your strength, compassion, and unwavering love inspire everything we do. Every healthy smile, every filled prescription, every life touched — it all starts with someone who cares deeply.

To the moms who show up day after day with courage and grace — thank you. We see you. We appreciate you. We celebrate you.

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Welvista. 💕
