👑 Happy Boss’s Day to the King of Southern Roots

At Southern Roots Periodontics, we believe in celebrating our leaders the right way… with a little flair and a lot of laughter.

🦷 The 4 Stages of Gum Disease (Periodontitis) 🦷

Gum disease doesn’t happen all at once it develops step by step. The American Academy of Periodontology has a system that helps us describe how advanced the disease is. Here’s what it means in simpler terms:

➡️ Stage I – Early Periodontitis

Slight damage to the bone and gums.

You might notice some bleeding when brushing or flossing.

Usually no pain, so it often goes unnoticed.

➡️ Stage II – Moderate Periodontitis

More bone loss around the teeth.

Gums may look puffy or red.

Bad breath or bleeding is more common.

Still treatable without major surgery if caught early.

➡️ Stage III – Severe Periodontitis (Potential Tooth Loss)

Significant bone damage.

Teeth may start to feel loose.

Gums may pull away from the teeth, creating deep “pockets” where bacteria can hide.

More difficult to manage and may require advanced treatment.

➡️ Stage IV – Advanced Periodontitis (Serious Tooth & Bite Problems)

Extensive bone and tooth loss.

Teeth can shift, change position, or even fall out.

Can make it difficult to chew properly or maintain a healthy bite.

Treatment often involves specialized care, sometimes including surgery or dental implants.

✨ The good news? Gum disease can be slowed or even stopped if caught early. Regular checkups, professional cleanings, and daily brushing and flossing are your best defense.
