True or False?
“You should avoid using a straw for several days”

True! ✅ Using a straw creates suction that can dislodge the blood clot protecting your healing site. Without that clot, you’re at higher risk for a painful condition called dry socket.

💡 Stick to sipping from a cup and follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions to keep your healing on track.

Nervous about dry socket? You’re not alone, many patients are nervous before extractions.

💡 Good news: With the right care and by following your post-op instructions, the risk of dry socket can be greatly reduced!

Remember:
🚫 Avoid straws
🚫 Don’t smoke
🚫 No rinsing or swishing
📋 Follow your surgeon’s instructions

What is dry socket?
A “dry socket” can happen after a tooth is removed if the protective blood clot doesn’t form or gets disturbed. Without that clot, the bone underneath can become exposed, which can be pretty painful.

📲If you ever have concerns during recovery, our team is just a phone call away.

TRUE or FALSE?
Dental implants can actually boost your jawbone health…
✅ TRUE!

Dental implants do more than just replace missing teeth—they also help preserve your jawbone health. When you lose a tooth, your jawbone can start to weaken over time due to lack of stimulation.

Dental implants act like natural tooth roots, helping to stimulate and preserve the bone. This not only supports long-term oral health but also helps maintain your facial structure and smile.

Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting a Continuing Education event with referring dentists from across the Mid-Missouri region.

At Columbia Oral Surgery, we believe that strong, collaborative relationships with our referring partners are key to delivering exceptional patient care. Continuing education is just one of the ways we invest in our community and grow together as a team.

We had the pleasure of hosting Chris May, CDT from May Dental Arts, who shared valuable insights into the future of digital dentistry. From improving precision to streamlining workflows, his practical strategies provided attendees with tools they can take back to elevate care in their own practices.

A special thank you for ZimVie for sponsoring this event and helping make it all possible!
