Not every placed implant successfully integrates. This is the situation our patient presented with after receiving treatment abroad.
Six implants were placed in the upper jaw; however, approximately two months later, one of them lost stability and failed to integrate with the surrounding bone. As a result, an inflammatory process developed in this area, leading to a significant bone defect.
During surgery, the non-integrated implant was removed and the site was thoroughly debrided from inflamed and non-viable tissues. After preparation, bone grafting was performed: the defect was filled with bone graft material, covered with membranes, and sutured to create optimal conditions for regeneration.
According to CBCT analysis, the remaining implants are integrated and may be preserved and utilized with proper treatment planning.
This clinical case highlights that implant success depends not only on the surgical phase, but also on comprehensive planning, load distribution, and biological healing processes.
Patient compliance with all postoperative instructions also plays an important role during the healing period, as it may significantly influence osseointegration and the final treatment outcome.
Even in such cases, there is always an opportunity to correct the situation, establish a stable and healthy bone foundation, and then proceed to full prosthetic rehabilitation.
