One thing I would never do as a dentist... well, actually, here’s two.

First, opening packages with your teeth. Your teeth are designed for chewing food, not tearing through plastic or cardboard. Using them as tools can chip, crack, or even break a tooth.

Second, chewing on ice. Even though ice seems harmless, it’s incredibly hard. Biting down on it can cause tiny fractures in your teeth that may eventually turn into painful cracks or require dental treatment.

Your teeth are strong, but they’re not indestructible.

If Your Dentist Won’t Do It... Neither Should You. 🦷

Not every viral dental tip is worth trying. In fact, some can do more harm than good. And while chewing on ice might seem harmless, it’s one of the easiest ways to chip or crack a tooth.

When in doubt, skip the trend and ask your dentist. Your smile will thank you!

Your toothbrush works hard for you every day, but it doesn’t last forever. 🪥

A good rule of thumb is to replace it every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed or after you’ve been sick. Worn-out bristles don’t clean your teeth as effectively, so a fresh toothbrush helps keep your smile healthy.

When was the last time you replaced yours?

Your teeth’s biggest enemies? 🦷

Anything gummy, chewy, or sugary can stick to your teeth and feed cavity causing bacteria. Dark colored foods and drinks like coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and soda can also leave behind stubborn stains over time.

The key isn’t just what you eat or drink, it’s how often. Frequent snacking and sipping throughout the day keeps your teeth exposed longer. Rinse with water when you can and stay consistent with brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits to keep your smile healthy.

Not all stains are created equal, but coffee, tea, matcha, and red wine can all contribute to discoloration over time.

The biggest factor? It’s often not what you drink, but how long you’re sipping it. Constant exposure throughout the day gives pigments and acids more time to affect your teeth.

If you enjoy these drinks, try having them with a meal instead of sipping for hours and rinse with water afterward to help minimize staining. 🦷

What makes someone a good candidate for Invisalign?

If you have mild to moderate crowding, spacing, or bite concerns and are committed to wearing your aligners as directed, Invisalign may be a great option. The best way to know for sure is with a consultation and personalized treatment plan.
