Most people don’t realize children’s dental needs change a lot as they grow. 🦷
A baby’s first dental visit is not just about “checking teeth.” It’s about making sure their mouth is developing properly, helping parents understand brushing and feeding habits, reviewing fluoride needs, and preventing problems before they start.
As kids grow, their visits grow with them:
Birth–12 months:
We look at early oral development, feeding habits, fluoride exposure, pacifier or thumb habits, and how to keep those first little teeth healthy.
12–24 months:
More teeth are coming in, which means we start watching more closely for early cavities, gum health, brushing routines, diet habits, and fluoride needs.
Ages 2–6:
This is a big habit-building stage. We focus on cleanings, fluoride when needed, healthy brushing routines, injury prevention, and monitoring how the teeth and jaws are developing.
Ages 6–12:
Baby teeth are falling out, adult teeth are coming in, and the bite is changing. Dental visits help us monitor growth, protect permanent molars with sealants when appropriate, and catch orthodontic concerns early.
Ages 12–18:
Teens are learning to take more responsibility for their own health. We continue to monitor gum health, cavities, bite changes, wisdom tooth development, sports protection, and habits like va**ng or to***co use.
At Cleona Dental, we love helping families understand what their child needs at each stage — not just to prevent cavities, but to support healthy growth, confidence, and lifelong oral health.
A healthy smile starts early, and it grows right along with them. 💛
