On Saturday, April 25, 2026, dental assistant Max S and I had the opportunity to participate in a free dental clinic hosted by Dr Gravitte and his team. This was a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community. There were a ton of volunteers, and patients showed up with patience, and gratitude.

As a practicing dentist with over 20 years of experience, and the founding owner of CCDC for over 13 years, participating in events like these reminds me why I love the work I do. With over 3,000 active patients of record and growing, I am truly blessed to have so many patients put their trust in us, some of whom have been with us since the very beginning.

I couldn’t do any of this without the support of my top notch team, who always put patient care first. I would like to thank all our patients for supporting us, which in turns allows us to give back to the community both with our time, as well as with financial resources.

Today we celebrate Dental Assistants Week at Clemmons Comprehensive Dental Care! Lead Assistant Lori has been a devoted team member at CCDC for over 10 years! Senior Assistant Dani has been helping patients with their smiles at our office for 7 years. Yami graduated from a local dental assistanting program last year, joined our team shortly thereafter and recently received her certifications for coronal polishing and nitrous oxide monitoring. Max is our newest fully certified dental assistant who is gaining experience at our office while he applies to dental school. Please join us in wishing our dental assistants a great week! We couldn’t do this without you!

More than 5,000 years ago, this individual lived with advanced dental infection.

The large hollowed areas in the jaw are not simple cavities. They are chronic abscesses — infections that spread from the tooth root into the surrounding bone.

Over time, the pressure from pus and inflammation slowly destroyed the jaw structure.

Without antibiotics, root canal treatment, or surgical care, an infection like this meant persistent pain, facial swelling, and a serious risk of the bacteria entering the bloodstream. In the ancient world, that could be fatal.

What makes this skull remarkable is not just its age. It shows that severe dental disease is not a modern problem caused by sugar or processed food alone. Oral infections have affected humans for thousands of years.

The difference today is intervention. Early treatment can stop infection before it damages bone or threatens overall health.

This ancient case leaves a clear lesson:
Ignoring tooth infection allows it to progress beyond the tooth — and the consequences can be serious.
