Back in early 1994, when Dr. Grossgold graduated from the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine, his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. When the best hospitals said he would only have a few years to live, Dr. Grossgold and his mother had to look elsewhere for hope. They started collaborating with experts outside of traditional medicine and delved into the world of alternative medicine. Th

e approach helped his father enjoy more quality years of life and with dignity which was very important to the family. This inspired Dr. Grossgold to expand his medical knowledge and complete a 4 year doctorate program at the revolutionary Capital University of Integrative Medicine in Washington D.C. There, he studied with renowned alternative medicine experts, like Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, leader on autonomic response testing, mental field therapy and natural treatments for Lyme disease, and neural therapy; Dr. Doris Rapp, a pioneer in environmental health; Dr. James Gordon, a Harvard educated psychiatrist and world-renowned expert in using mind-body medicine to heal anxiety, depression, and psychological trauma; Dr. Mark McClure, a biological dentist; Dr. Robert Adkins, known for the famous Adkins Diet; Dr. Robert Bardford, founder of American Biologics and specialist in dark field microscope; and many more! With years of knowledge and experience, he was ready to build a place of healing for his patients. As both a traditional internist, pediatrician and military surgeon, as well a doctor trained in Integrative Medicine, Dr. Grossgold can treat a myriad of complex cases, including Lyme and associated diseases, mold and heavy metal toxicity, neurological disorders, and genetic and autoimmune disease. What distinguishes Dr. Grossgold from other western medical professionals is his mission to find the root cause of diseases and not just treating the symptoms. For years, everyday life had become unpredictable.

A clear scan can feel like the finish line. But “tumor-free” does not always mean the biological conditions that allowed cancer to emerge have disappeared. Imaging tells us what we can see. It does not always tell us what may still be unfolding beneath the surface.

This is why I believe survivorship requires a wider lens. We have to look beyond the absence of a visible tumor and remain curious about residual disease, circulating signals, inflammation, metabolism, immune function, and the terrain that shaped the disease in the first place. The goal is not to create fear. It is to replace complacency with informed, proactive care.

A clear scan is absolutely something to celebrate. But it should not always be where the conversation ends. Save this post so you remember to keep asking what the terrain is telling you next.
