Drs. Everitt and Maisel - General Dentists

Drs. Everitt and Maisel - General Dentists Dr. Jeffrey A. Everitt and Dr. Lee M. Maisel General, Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry All costs are carefully reviewed ahead of time.

We have been treating patients in this area since 1977 (Dr. Everitt) and 1986 (Dr. Maisel). In 1991 we moved our growing general practice into our office on Raritan Road in Clark. We practice modern, comprehensive dentistry with an emphasis on prevention and conservative treatment planning. Both of us, after dental school, trained at major teaching hospitals and devote a large amount of time to co

ntinuing education. With an exceptional staff of talented people we form an experienced, dedicated team to provide you and your family with the best dental care possible. When treatment is necessary, the problem will be explained and your alternatives discussed. Our office will do everything possible to make the best dentistry affordable and to co-ordinate it with any insurance that you may have. We will routinely make billing arrangements and extended payment plans. Your over all well-being in our office is major concern. Our office meets or exceeds all standards for cleanliness and safety. We have hospital grade sterilization of all instruments and handpieces and your medical history is carefully reviewed before treatment. At each check-up we routinely do cancer screening and blood pressure readings. All of us in our practice want to build long-term relationships with our patients that are based on trust, goodwill, and service. We have made every effort to creating an office that not only brings to you state-of-the-art technology and a comprehensive range of dental services, but also the convenience of early, late, and Saturday hours, prompt emergency service, and a staff that is experienced and caring.

IF YOU DRINK RED WINE, a few simple steps can help you avoid "wine teeth" or "merlot mouth".

The purple pigments in red wine can stain teeth with the help of acid in the wine (which promotes erosion of tooth enamel so teeth become more porous to the pigment) and tannins (which help the pigments latch on). It may sound counterintuitive but, to avoid staining, brush BEFORE drinking the wine, not right after. Brushing before gets rid of the film developing plaque on the teeth to which the wine pigments could otherwise stick.

DON'T brush for at least 30 minutes AFTER drinking, since brushing can cause temporary etching in tooth enamel that has been softened by the wine's acidity, and this could boost the ability of the stain to soak in.

INSTEAD, rinse your mouth with water AFTER drinking wine to help remove the staining particles. Eating while you drink helps stop staining by acting as a barrier to the acids and by promoting saliva.

If you're already aware of some staining and would like to discuss how we might whiten your teeth, please call the office to schedule an appointment.

A cause of tooth enamel damage is bruxism, or teeth grinding. Over time, the constant clenching and friction can wear down or fracture the enamel. In this slide, teeth grinding has worn down the upper and lower front teeth.

Bruxism is often worst when you sleep -- that's when you can't control it. Reducing stress may help. Some people wear a special mouth guard to bed. Ask us about it if you're grinding your teeth and we can make you a custom mouth guard.

As tough as tooth enamel is, it can be worn down. Acids from foods and bacteria eat away at it, causing erosion and cavities.

Enamel can also be chipped or cracked. Unlike bone, it can’t grow back on its own.

Enamel may seem white, but it’s clear. Light can shine through it. The layer underneath, dentin, shows through. That’s what makes a tooth look light or dark.

Over time, things like coffee, tea, wine, and ci******es can make the outer layer of your teeth look dingy yellow or gray.

The enamel on your teeth is kind of like an eggshell. It protects the soft part of the tooth inside.

Unlike an egg’s outer layer, it's tough. It’s the hardest substance in your body. With some luck -- and good dental care -- it can withstand decades of biting, chewing, and crunching.
