If you are missing one or more teeth, how do you know which replacement option is right for you?

Dental implants, bridges, partial dentures, and full dentures can all restore missing teeth—but they differ in stability, longevity, maintenance, cost, and how they affect the surrounding teeth and jawbone. The best choice depends on how many teeth are missing, the health of your remaining teeth and bone, and what matters most to you.

Our Learning Center article provides a straightforward comparison of the available options so you can better understand the advantages and considerations of each.

Could a tooth need a root canal even if it doesn’t hurt?

Surprisingly, yes. While persistent pain is one possible warning sign, an infected or damaged tooth may also cause lingering sensitivity, discomfort when chewing, gum swelling, a recurring bump on the gums, or a change in the tooth’s color. In some cases, there may be no noticeable symptoms at all.

Not every painful tooth requires a root canal, either. A comprehensive dental examination helps determine what is causing the problem and which treatment is most appropriate.
