// Give yourself extra time for security, transfers, and rest breaks.

RJ Rosenberg Orthopedic Lab is proud to support Cincy Velocity, a talented youth baseball team with a special connection to one of our patient families.

One of the players is the older brother of Carson, a patient we are honored to know and support. He is not only a great teammate on the field, but also a big supporter of his brother Carson — and that makes this team even more special to us.

We love seeing young athletes work hard, build confidence, support one another, and have fun doing what they love. This team photo says it all — energy, pride, personality, and a whole lot of heart.

The K level is a rating from 0 to 4 that is used to predict your potential success with your prosthesis. It may change over time as you improve in your ability to wear and use the prosthesis.

The different K Levels are:

K0 Level: Unable to use a prosthesis with or without assistance. A prosthesis does not enhance quality of life or mobility.
K1 Level: Has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis on level surfaces at fixed walking speeds.
K2 Level: Has the ability or potential to use a prothesis during walking and on low-level environmental barriers such as curbs, stairs, or uneven surfaces.
K3 Level: Has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis on most environmental barriers and during activity beyond simple walking.
K4 Level: Has the ability or potential to use a prosthesis during high impact exercise, stress, or energy levels. This is the level exhibited by children, active adults, and athletes.

June is Great Outdoors Month—a time to get outside, explore, and enjoy everything nature has to offer.

Warm weather shouldn’t keep you from getting out, but summer heat can add extra challenges for amputees. Sweat inside a prosthetic socket can lead to slipping, rubbing, skin irritation, or odor.

A few simple habits can help you stay comfortable and active:
// Keep your liner clean and fully dry.
// Pack a towel or extra prosthetic socks to manage moisture.
// Monitor your skin for redness, irritation, or pressure spots.
// Take breaks in cool, shaded, or air-conditioned areas.
// Contact your prosthetist if fit or sweating becomes a concern.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and your mental health matters—especially as an amputee.

According to the Amputee Coalition, the road to recovery after an amputation can be challenging, with patients often experiencing a wide range of emotions.

Managing these emotions can be done through leaning on friends and family, exercising regularly, eating well, and joining a support group.
