Many patients ask me "Does my insurance cover it... ?". It is a common question which I almost never know how to answer. First of all, because I have no idea what insurance type, conditions or restrictions they have and second because I know that medical/dental insurances determine their coverages based on statistic averages. Is the patient in front of me just an average patient or a specific case?! I have no clue; I have been trained and chose to be a doctor specifically because I want to treat each patient individually.

So, the actual question I have to answer myself and also share it with the patient is "...Do you really want insurance to cover this treatment?!" I do not mean this in a pejorative way but seriously now, "do you really want to have your most precious asset - your health - treated at averaging statistical standards of an insurance company which by definition has nothing to do with medicine and is driven only by profit?! This... simply gives me chills. Not only that I won't do it - just because my integrity won't allow it and, as a trained professional, I also swore to cause or allow no harm to come to my patients - but I choose to provide the patients with the necessary knowledge about themselves, their health risk profile and what it takes to restore their health. With this "information under their belt", they can go back to their insurance and get a coverage that truly covers their risk profile. Interestingly enough, no insurance will accept this... I wonder why?!

Dear patients, please think before you place your trust in people or institutions promising things that seem sometimes too good to be true. Especially, when it comes to your health! This is not something you can buy at the supermarket. You cannot buy Health and/or Time. First can be only preserved and the second, ... used wisely for the pursuit of happiness.
