✨ SMILE GLOW UP! ✨

This one is extra fun because not only did her smile completely transform, she grew up so much during her 23 months in braces! And judging by that final smile, she was VERY ready to get those braces off. 🎉

She started treatment with:

🔹 Severe upper and lower crowding
🔹 A shallow bite
🔹 Very limited space to properly align all of her teeth

With this amount of crowding, removing four premolars was a treatment option we considered and discussed. In many cases like this, extractions can be an appropriate choice. But for her, we were able to successfully accomplish our treatment goals without removing any permanent teeth.

Using arch development, braces, and elastics, we gradually created the space needed to align the teeth, coordinate the arches, and build a beautiful, functional bite.

After 23 months, we finished with:

• 🔹 Beautifully aligned teeth
• 🔹 Broader, well-developed arches
• 🔹 A balanced and functional bite
• 🔹 All permanent teeth maintained
• 🔹 One VERY happy patient on braces-off day!

This is why every orthodontic treatment plan should be individualized. Sometimes extractions are necessary, and sometimes thoughtful arch development and great patient cooperation allow us to achieve an excellent result without them.

And what a glow up this was. She didn't just leave with a new smile. We got to watch her grow up right in front of us during treatment. 💙🦷

✨ Transformation Tuesday – Sometimes Orthodontics Can Surprise You ✨

This was an extremely challenging bite correction.

This patient started with:

🔹 A severe anterior open bite, where the front teeth could not touch
🔹 A posterior crossbite
🔹 Crowding and narrow arches
🔹 Flared upper and lower front teeth
🔹 A significant tongue thrust

Because growth was essentially complete, there was very little opportunity to use growth modification to help correct the underlying bite. The patient had previously been told that jaw surgery might be the only option.

And in some severe open-bite cases, that absolutely can be true. Depending on the cause and severity, treatment may require TADs (small temporary orthodontic anchors) or corrective jaw surgery to achieve a stable result.

But every patient and every bite is different.

For this patient, we were able to use expansion, braces, and elastics to fully correct the open bite and crossbite without surgery or TADs and in only 20 months!

The change in function is just as exciting as the change in the smile. The front teeth can now come together properly, the arches are coordinated, and the patient can bite and chew using the teeth the way they were intended.

Cases like this remind us just how powerful orthodontics can be. With careful diagnosis, the right mechanics, and excellent patient cooperation, sometimes we can accomplish far more than patients ever thought possible. 💙🦷

This patient started with crowding and high canines, meaning the canine teeth had erupted above and outside the natural smile line. Because the canines help frame the smile, their position can have a huge impact on overall smile esthetics.
