"I NEED A ROOT CANAL"
Those words can sound intimidating, but the procedure itself is much less mysterious than what people think 🤔

Here is what we're actually doing:
1️⃣ We get you comfortable.
The tooth is thoroughly numbed before treatment begins.
2️⃣ We access the inside of the tooth.
A small opening allows us to reach the inflamed or infected tissue inside.
3️⃣ We carefully clean the root canal system.
Using specialized instruments and advanced technology we clean and disinfect the spaces inside the root.
4️⃣ We seal the tooth from the inside.
Once cleaned, the canals are filled and sealed to help prevent bacteria from re-entering.
5️⃣ Your dentist restores the tooth.
A permanent restoration protects the tooth so you can continue using it as normal.

The goal!? Not to kill the tooth, not to make it weaker, not to simply stop a toothache...The goal is to remove infection and inflammation while allowing you to keep your natural tooth 🦷

Modern endodontic treatment is designed around one simple idea-- if a natural tooth can predictably be saved, it's usually WORTH SAVING 😉

It's just a root canal, and your tooth is

🦷 Is It a Toothache… or Your Sinuses?
Sinus pressure can sometimes feel just like a toothache.
Your upper back teeth sit very close to your maxillary sinuses, so sinus inflammation can cause several teeth to feel sore or sensitive.
It may be sinus-related if you have:
Several upper teeth hurting at once
Nasal congestion or facial pressure
Pain that feels worse when bending forward
Relief as your sinus symptoms improve
It may be a dental problem if:
One specific tooth hurts
Biting or chewing causes pain
Hot or cold causes lingering discomfort
The tooth aches on its own
You notice swelling near the tooth or gum
Not sure where the pain is coming from? That's where an endodontist can help!?
Diagnose first, treatment when necessary. Save your tooth whenever possible!

⁉️WHY DOES MY TOOTH HURT WHEN I DRINK SOMETHING COLD...

A little sensitivity doesn't always mean you need a root canal-- but your tooth may be trying to tell you something.

Cold sensitivity can come from many things, including:
🦷 Gum recession or exposed roots
🦷 a cavity
🦷 a cracked tooth
🦷 recent dental treatment
🦷 inflammation of the nerve inside the tooth

One important clue is how long the pain lasts.

If sensitivity disappears almost immediately after the cold is removed, the nerve may simply just be irritated.

And sometimes the sooner we identify the cause, the better the chance we have of saving the tooth.

🚫If you are experiencing persistent cold sensitivity, spontaneous tooth aches or pain that keeps getting worse DO NOT ignore it!

Your natural teeth are

These warning signs are consistent with patient guidance from the American Association of Endodontists.

SIGNS YOU MAY NEED A ROOT CANAL
A tooth does not always need to hurt badly or even hurt at all to have an inflamed, dying or infected nerve. Here are some symptoms that should be evaluated:

1️⃣Lingering Sensitivity to hot or cold
2️⃣Pain when chewing or biting
3️⃣Spontaneous or throbbing pain
4️⃣Swollen or Tender Gums
5️⃣A "pimple" on the gums
6️⃣Tooth discoloration
7️⃣A deep cavity, crack or previous injury

These symptoms do not automatically mean you need a root canal. Tooth pain can have many causes, so examination, diagnostic testing and appropriate imaging are necessary to determine the source. Early evaluation may make the difference between saving and losing a natural tooth.

Saving teeth is our specialty! At Skyway Endodontics, you'll find experienced, board-certified endodontic care. Your teeth are worth saving!

Let's debunk a dental myth!
MYTH: Root Canal causes illness

FACT: This claim is based largely on the focal infection theory-- outdated research from the early 1900s that used methods considered unreliable by modern scientific standards. THE TRUTH: Root canal treatment is actually designed to remove a source of infection. During treatment we will: remove inflamed, dying or infected tissue from inside the tooth; clean & disinfect the Root canal system; fill & seal the space to prevent re-infection. An UN-TREATED infection (not the root canal used to treat it) is the greater concern 🦷

Happy Watermelon Day!
🍉Bonus fun fact: watermelon is surprisingly good for your teeth & gums because it is high in water, contains malic acid & provides vitamin c.
Chewing watermelon makes your mouth produce more saliva, which naturally fights cavities and neutralizes bad acids 😀
