🦷 What is the oral microbiome?
Your mouth is home to over 700 species of microorganisms—including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and other microbes. Together, they make up your oral microbiome.
Don’t let the word “bacteria” scare you! Most of these microbes are helpful, not harmful. They work together to:
🦷 Protect your teeth from harmful bacteria
🛡️ Support healthy gums
🍽️ Help begin digestion
⚖️ Keep your mouth in a healthy balance
Problems start when this balance is disrupted by factors like poor oral hygiene, frequent sugary snacks, smoking, dry mouth, or certain illnesses. Harmful bacteria can then grow, increasing the risk of cavities, gum disease, and bad breath.
✨ The goal isn’t to kill all bacteria—it’s to maintain a healthy balance.
A healthy mouth is the foundation of a healthy body. Taking care of your oral microbiome is one of the simplest ways to support both your oral and overall health.
