✨HYGIENE FOR YOUR TOOTHBRUSH✨
Have you ever noticed a white film on your toothbrushes? How about some gunk at the base of your power toothbrush or charger? Gross right?! Let me show you some hygiene tips to keep your toothbrushes as clean as possible!
That gunk that builds up over time on your toothbrushes is a combination of water, residual toothpaste, bacteria and even mold! It’s not uncommon for mold and bacteria to build up on surfaces, especially where there is water or dampness (shampoo bottles, shower tiles, etc.) Moreover, germs are everywhere! In our mouth, on surfaces, and even released when we flush the toilet! But don’t fret there are steps you can take to maintain your toothbrushes health.
DOs:
1️⃣ Replace toothbrush (manual) or toothbrush head (power) every 3 months
2️⃣ After brushing, rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove paste or debris
3️⃣ Wipe handle of toothbrush with warm damp cloth
4️⃣ Store toothbrush upright and open so it can air dry thoroughly
DON’Ts:
1️⃣ Don’t place in microwave, dishwasher or boiling water
2️⃣ Don’t share your toothbrush with other people - can spread bacteria and germs
3️⃣ Don’t store in container or medicine cabinet - closed spaces promotes bacteria growth
4️⃣ Avoid disinfectants and sanitizers since it can increase opportunities for cross contamination
EXTRA CLEANING:
If you want a deeper clean, you can try methods of sanitizing, such as UV machines, but studies have not been definitive as to how much it can reduce bacteria growth. Studies have shown that white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, mouthwash can help reduce bacterial growth.Overall, these methods may make you feel better that you cleaned thoroughly but have not been proven to make a significant difference in your dental health and hygiene.
During the times we live in, we are cleaning and wiping everything else, don’t forget your toothbrush! Give your brush some TLC and you’ll be continuing your good dental habits! Any questions, leave them below!
