A smile is so personal and it should be uniquely crafted for the individual. It shouldn’t look “stock” or like every other result of a portfolio. It should maintain personality, character, and individuality. And it should look real. It must look beautiful, yet natural. It should look as if you were born with just a perfect smile that fits who you are. It should mimic the contours, colors, and translucency of natural teeth, but optimize the symmetry, the forms, the proportions, and the balance of the overall display of your smile. This all comes from a thorough understanding of aesthetics and clinical dentistry in combination with the ability to transform a vision into reality. This patient had presented with existing composite veneers, and she was looking for a beautiful result with porcelain veneers. She was born with a gorgeous display of her smile, but she just needed the teeth to match. With a couple appointments and 12 veneers, her smile was transformed to provide her a more full, brighter, yet natural looking result that fit her perfectly. Not only did the aesthetics greatly improve her smile, but you can appreciate the improvement to her hygiene and health that was attributed to the proper contours and design of her final veneers. As always, a big thanks to my ceramist for his collaboration on this masterpiece!

So many think “veneers are veneers” until they start to do their research and and become more aware. A final result is the sum of its parts, and there is so much detail that goes into these cases that the difference in results from each provider is enormous. No 2 providers would deliver the same exact results on any given case. There is great difference in treatment planning, case design, material selection, aesthetic eye, style, handskills, ceramist, communication, experience, standards, efficiency, cost, patient experience, etc. And this is also why it’s so critical as a patient to research and do your homework, making sure that your potential results are a great match for your expectations.
This young girl had worn down her teeth over time, and she also disliked the resulting imbalance of the display of her teeth and gums in her smile. To address this imbalance, we reduced the gingival (gums) display. We also raised her bite to satisfy both aesthetic and functional concerns, providing a more youthful result. Protection of the functional surfaces were also included for long term stability and success. Materials were carefully selected and designed to optimize aesthetic and functional concerns. And obviously her smile was carefully designed to provide that beautiful, vibrant yet natural outcome that we always deliver. In total, 14 veneers, vonlays, and onlays were delivered to restore her case.

Restoring aesthetics and health together. What many don’t realize is the close interrelationship between contours, aesthetics, and soft tissue health. Proper contouring along with clinical precision is what supports the biocompatibility of our work. This is a major reason of why I design all of my own cases. This concept and understanding drives 100% of our clinical and design decision making. We use nature as a guide, but it’s our understanding of design and biology that really influences our vision for each case, as each case’s presentation is unique and different. And this is what makes our work unique and different as well. It is designed and delivered with the patient’s healthcare and functionality at the center, personally crafted for the individual. Your aesthetic work should always exist in a mutualistic relationship with your dental health, each supporting and benefitting from the other. This is what makes results look beautiful from every angle, from any distance, and for the long term.
This patient originally came in after having crown lengthening and composite veneers placed in Atlanta. After removing her composite veneers, her gingival health was restored along with the aesthetics of her smile with 12 porcelain veneers.

From good to great. I met this patient from NYC in a virtual consult. A couple appointments and a few weeks later, she had the smile that she was hoping for! She didn’t like her original yellow color and the overall aesthetic of her teeth/smile, plus we also had a couple implants to restore as well. Designed with a sleeker, cleaner look, we were able to achieve a smile that really gave her that “wow” factor that she wanted, with a better overall harmony. This final photo is from the delivery day, so excuse the irritated gums and anesthetized lips that will all settle in nicely in the days after. As always, thank you to my ceramist for the collaboration on her case in transforming her smile with gorgeous porcelain veneers.

Everyone sees the finals and thinks a result like this just happens, but the truth is it all starts with a vision, and a vision can only be brought to reality with a thorough understanding. An understanding of aesthetics. An understanding of design. An understanding of clinical management. An understanding of materials and ceramics. Every action has a consequence, and when you understand the interrelationship of aesthetics and health, you think differently. You use the variables at your disposal to your advantage. A case like this is hand designed from the beginning, driving the clinical care to perfectly and precisely set up the design for the final porcelain veneers. And sharing the same vision and understanding with my talented ceramist allows for careful control along the way to ensure consistent, reliable results everytime. This case is a young girl that was hoping to enhance the general shape, color, and overall beauty of her teeth and smile. You can see the soft tissue health was prioritized as well, allowing a result that not only looks beautiful, but it supports the biology and health as well.

Some of my favorite patients lately have been from Miami, looking for a smile that is bright and beautiful, but still natural. It’s funny, what I am noticing is that each region has very characteristic looks and styles to the veneers and makeovers of that area. My Miami patients always reference the cold white, fake look that they want to avoid. Luckily that’s never what we ever deliver :) This young girl is in the aesthetics industry, so you know she had an eye for beauty! She had existing bonding and veneers that she couldn’t wait to replace. In 2 visits, her new smile was created and delivered, giving her the smile that she had always wanted. Sorry the final photo is at the final delivery where her lips are a little numb and her gums need to settle in, but this will be gorgeous in just a day or 2. Although I won’t be opening a Miami clinic anytime soon, I’m sure this patient would be happy to tell you how easy it was coming to Chicago a couple times to get her new gorgeous smile :)

Turning a vision into reality. A case like this has a lot of factors to consider, but when you can envision the final outcome from the beginning, it’s all about carefully staying the course. From the start, we design the blueprint for the case in wax, and the rest of the process precisely follow’s the design and clinical steps to deliver turn this vision into reality for the patient. This patient required crown lengthening, opening of the vertical dimension of the bite, correction of an existing implant, and aesthetic enhancement of the overall smile. A big thanks to my ceramist in this collaboration to provide a gorgeous, yet natural feeling new smile for this young girl.

Starting the new year off right! This young girl came in after she had gone to get no-prep veneers, but didn’t have them delivered because of the bulky look that they had. Inherently, no-prep veneers increase the volume of the teeth and the result generally looks oversized and chunky. Some patients are ok with this outcome, but others prefer a result that maintains more natural contours and achieves a softer, more elegant appearance. She was hoping to restore the beauty of her smile with a look that was more seemless and timeless, a smile that no one would ever know was veneers. With some simple reshaping of the outter surface to allow the porcelain to restore the full form of the teeth, we were able to correct the wear, staining, and overall smile deficits, surpassing all expectations for this young girl. As always, a big thanks to my ceramist for the collaboration. Happy New Year to everyone, and I’m excited for all that the year has in store!

And just like that, my heart was stolen. Alana Marie came into our world on Tuesday, and she’s everything we had hoped for. Becoming a girl dad is definitely going to soften me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. We are so excited to see the boys with her later today when we return home, as they get to meet their new little sister for the first time. I can still remember the excitement and happiness when my little sister came into our world when I was their age, and I love that our boys will (hopefully 🤞) get to share that same feeling. Thanks to everyone for the love in celebrating our little girl!

This great patient was referred by her brother, who was once my professor, and she travelled in for an improvement to her presentation, as she was unhappy with the gaps, color, and overall appearance of her smile. She wanted something that looked beautiful, but still natural and like her own teeth, just prettier. Her brother knew the result she was looking for, and he felt confident that she could achieve those results in my hands. Although this always adds a little more pressure to the case, I always appreciate the trust and confidence that another provider shows in me when they refer a close family member or friend to my practice. In this case, with an improvement to the form, spacing, and overall aesthetic harmony of the teeth with thin, conservative veneers, her dream smile was achieved, in just 2 visits.
A special thanks to my ceramist who is a key teammate in our workflow and cases.

Replacement of bulky, opaque veneers to deliver a more beautiful, fuller smile.
This wonderful dermatologist had previously-placed veneers, and she was unhappy with the contours and overall look. Not only did she dislike the white, chalky appearance of her current veneers, but the contouring left her with dark spaces and shadowing between all the teeth. With a couple visits to Chicago, we designed her case to better match the overall look she wanted, removed her existing veneers, and restored her smile with 10 new veneers to complement her gorgeous smile.

Make sure to check out the final smile photo if you want to see the most stressful aspect of this case………This is a little change-up from my normal posts. Many think that my practice is veneers all day, but here is the other half of my practice that I rarely put out on the gram: implants and reconstruction of more problematic cases.
This young girl’s phone had bumped her tooth, leading to external resorption on her front right tooth. As you can see, she had subsequent infection that was destroying her bone and soft tissue. On a young, beautiful girl with a smile as high as hers with this presentation, the case couldn’t have been more demanding. I know most wouldn’t have managed the case this way. Many would have played it safe to stage everything, but I know the result of that ensures certain compromises. In my hands, I felt comfortable and confident that this is was the best way to shoot for the stars and give her the best result possible. You can follow along with the steps taken to manage her case, from immediate implant placement at the time of extraction and grafting, immediate temporization with her own tooth, the healed response after 1 and 3 months, and final restoration of her case. She wanted to improve the contours and gaps between her teeth in the final outcome, so we included 3 veneers with the implant crown. In the last photo, you can see the final resulting smile, turning lemons into lemonade. Thanks to .us for their implants and as always, for his gorgeous, natural-looking ceramic work.
