“Why does my dentist need that?”
Your medication list belongs at your dental visit, too—even the vitamins and supplements you don’t think to mention.

Some medicines can contribute to dry mouth, affect bleeding, or matter when planning for healing. That’s why we ask. (ada.org, ada.org, ada.org)

At Michael F. Grasso, DDS in Chesterfield, your health history helps inform dental care—not just fill out a form.

An updated list with names and doses is useful. Never stop or change medication without your prescriber’s guidance.

Save this before your next appointment.

Anxious about your dental visit?
You can say, “The sounds make me tense,” without making it a big conversation.

Or try: “Could you explain each step?” and “Can we agree on a signal for a break?”

At Michael F. Grasso, DDS in Chesterfield, comfort preferences belong in the conversation—not something you have to keep to yourself.

Practical adjustments depend on your treatment and safe communication. You don’t need a perfect explanation to ask.

“It didn’t feel important enough to mention.”
A dry mouth. Tenderness. A meal you wanted… until the first bite felt uncomfortable.

During breast cancer care, some treatments and medicines can cause mouth changes that affect eating, drinking and everyday comfort. Your experience deserves attention—even when there’s already so much to discuss.

Tell your cancer care team and dentist what feels different, especially if eating or swallowing becomes harder. One question to bring along: “What mouth care is safe for me during treatment?”

At Dr. Grasso’s Chesterfield, Missouri practice, these conversations belong in dental care. Keeping your medical and dental teams informed helps them plan care around your treatment and needs.

Send this gently to someone who may need it.

The timing is almost impressive.

Your mouth is full of tools… and that’s when someone asks you a question. 😅

But what if you need something more than a chance to answer? A moment to swallow. A break. A chance to say something feels uncomfortable.

You can ask for a pause.

Before treatment begins, we can agree on a simple hand signal. You don’t need to find the words while we’re working—just signal us so we can pause safely and check what you need.

At Dr. Grasso’s Chesterfield, Missouri practice, your comfort belongs in the conversation. Being able to communicate is part of participating in your care.

Send this to the friend who always tries to answer mid-cleaning.

“What are you checking besides my teeth?”

A good question. One most of us don’t think to ask while we’re sitting in the dental chair.

An oral cancer screening includes looking at your tongue, lips, cheeks and other tissues inside and around your mouth. Your teeth are only part of the picture.

And what you notice between visits matters, too. A sore that isn’t healing. A lump. A patch that looks different. Tell us about it—even if you’re unsure how to describe it. These changes can have different causes; an examination helps determine what comes next.

At Dr. Grasso’s Chesterfield, Missouri practice, we want you to understand what we’re checking and why. Oral health belongs in the bigger conversation about your health.

Save this before your next checkup—and bring that question with you.

Some smiles are perfectly imperfect.
A little uneven. A little lived-in. Attached to a laugh you would recognize from across the room.

Because confidence does not always mean wanting a brand-new smile. Sometimes it means feeling comfortable enough to laugh without covering your mouth… to show up in the photo… to look like yourself again.

This World Smile Day, we’re celebrating the smiles people remember—not because they were flawless, but because of how they made everyone else feel.

Send this to someone whose smile makes every room better. 💙

“I thought the crown was the whole appointment.”
Honestly… most people do.

But before a crown can fit your tooth, there’s a full process happening behind the scenes:
Planning the restoration.
Scanning the tooth and surrounding bite.
Designing the shape digitally.
Creating the restoration from a ceramic block.
Checking the fit, bite, margins and appearance before placement.

With CEREC technology, some crowns may be completed in one visit when clinically appropriate. Not every tooth or treatment plan follows the same timeline—and “same day” should never mean skipping the details that matter.

Would fewer dental appointments make treatment easier to fit into your schedule?

Save this for your next crown conversation.

That sharp zing when you sip cold water or bite into ice cream?
You’re not imagining it… and it’s not something you should ignore.

Tooth sensitivity is your body’s way of telling you that your teeth may need a little extra attention.

There are a lot of reasons it can happen. Brushing too aggressively with a hard-bristled toothbrush. Grinding or clenching your teeth while you sleep. Frequent exposure to acidic foods and drinks. Even certain mouthwashes can contribute to sensitivity for some people.

The good news is that small changes can make a big difference.

🪥 Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush gently.
🥤 Enjoy acidic foods and drinks in moderation, and rinse with water afterward.
😴 If you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist whether a custom night guard could help protect your smile.
🦷 If sensitivity sticks around, don’t just switch toothpastes and hope for the best. Let us find the cause.

Sensitivity isn’t a diagnosis—it’s a symptom. And once you understand why it’s happening, you can take steps to protect your enamel and keep your smile comfortable for years to come.

Have you noticed your teeth feeling more sensitive lately? Hot coffee, cold drinks, or sweets—which one gets your attention first?

Have you ever noticed your gums bleeding when you brush and thought, “It happens sometimes. It’s probably normal.”

It’s one of the most common things we hear.

The truth is, healthy gums shouldn’t bleed.

Bleeding is often your body’s way of signaling inflammation. Left untreated, that inflammation can progress into gum disease. And what happens in your mouth doesn’t always stay there.

Research continues to explore the connection between gum disease and conditions like heart disease, diabetes, pregnancy complications, and certain respiratory infections. While gum disease doesn’t directly cause these conditions, chronic inflammation and harmful oral bacteria may play a role in overall health.

That’s why we talk so much about prevention.

Brushing and flossing are important, but so are routine dental visits. Catching gum disease early is often simpler, more comfortable, and much more effective than waiting until symptoms become impossible to ignore.

Your smile is part of something much bigger.

When you take care of your gums, you’re investing in your overall health—not just your teeth.

If you’ve noticed bleeding when you brush or floss, don’t ignore it. It’s worth having a conversation. Sometimes the smallest signs can tell us the most.
