Considering braces or just started your smile journey? 🦷 It’s a lot more than just getting them put on and taken off! The whole process actually breaks down into five distinct phases, from that very first consultation to keeping your new smile straight for life. Here is exactly what you can expect at every step of the way:

• Phase 1: Consultation and Diagnosis
Your orthodontist examines your teeth, takes X-rays and digital scans or impressions, and creates a custom treatment plan.
• Phase 2: Bonding and Placement
Brackets are placed onto your teeth and connected with an archwire (and sometimes elastic ties or bands) during an appointment lasting about 30 minutes to 2 hours.
• Phase 3: Regular Adjustments and Active Treatment
You visit your orthodontist every 8-12 weeks to tighten wires, change rubber bands, and guide your teeth and bite into proper alignment.
• Phase 4: Debanding and Removal
Once your treatment goals are met, the orthodontist carefully removes the brackets and wires and polishes your teeth.
• Phase 5: Retention
You receive a custom retainer to wear as directed (initially full-time or at night) to keep your teeth from shifting back to their old positions.

Your first orthodontic appointment is a non-invasive consultation lasting 45-60 minutes.

Here is what to expect:

~ Check-In: You will submit your dental history and insurance information.

~ Imaging: The Treatment Coordinator will take digital photos, panoramic X-rays, and a 3D digital scan of your teeth (no ooey gooey messy putty).

~Exam: The orthodontist will visually inspect your teeth, bite, and jaw alignment.

~ Consultation: Doctor will discuss whether treatment is needed right away or later, discuss
your diagnosis, treatment options (braces vs. aligners) and estimated treatment timeline.

~ Financials: The Treatment Coordinator will outline total costs, insurance coverage, and interest-free payment plans.
