Feldspathic veneers and in particular minimal or no prep require a deep knowledge and understanding of ceramics and the particular material we are using. We need to know what each porcelain does in 0.1 0.2 or 0.3 mm thickness.
In such thickeness we are in a large extent painting with our eyes closed. In particular with the foil technique we don’t see most of the different colors until we remove the foil, with the refractory die the extra white will also influence the final shade.

Repost of this lovely transformation with Invisalign + Kör whitening + Single Porcelain Veneer. Remember our patient with the single porcelain veneer? Check out her before & afters!

Photo 1 - Before & After Kör professional whitening and a single porcelain veneer on her lateral incisor. Look at how adding just the right details to her smile gave a bold, but elegant result. This takes teamwork with an excellent lab technician.

Photo 2 - We started with 1 year of Invisalign to alleviate her crowding and put the bite into correct position. This allowed me to leave space on either side of her peg lateral to both improve the proportion of this smaller tooth & minimize the risk of future chipping to her natural teeth.

If we are using a reference scan , why not use the reference shades straight from the source?
With a model that contains complete color information of the teeth/stumps it allows us to more accurately predict if we can achieve a target shade and how seamlessly it will blend with the existing teeth.
If there are areas on the stumps with characterizations or intense chroma, we can see the show-through beforehand.
As you can see on the colored die, this is not a monochromatic shade and with minimal thickness restorations just 0.2mm thin we as technicians are painting with our eyes closed.
Well, 3d polyjet printers have some amazing technology for this.
