The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a U.S. nonprofit organization that was created in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. It honors the sacrifice of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in full gear to reach the World Trade Center after learning his unit had already responded. He lost his life in the line of duty that day. The foundation’s name comes from this act of courage. Today, the organization focuses on supporting military members, veterans, first responders, and their families through several key initiatives. It builds mortgage-free smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, helping them live more independently. It also pays off mortgages for families of fallen service members and first responders, providing financial stability during difficult times. In addition, the foundation works to address veteran homelessness bycreating housing solutions and support programs. One of its most visible efforts is the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K run, which retraces Stephen Siller’s path and serves as both a memorial and a fundraising event. Over time, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has grown into one of the most prominent charities in the United States dedicated to supporting those who serve and protect the country.
