This case was never about simply closing a space.

It was about restoring health first, then creating a smile that felt natural, confident and complete.

Our guest came to us with a very large diastema — or gap — between his two front teeth, along with areas of decay, failing restorations and mild periodontal concerns.

Before we could focus on the cosmetic outcome, we had to begin with the foundation: health.

We removed decay.
We replaced failing fillings.
We stabilized the teeth and gums.
We made sure the mouth was healthy enough to support the smile we were planning.

From the very beginning, we knew Invisalign would be an important part of the process, but we also knew it would not be able to close the space completely by itself. That was part of the plan.

Invisalign allowed us to align the teeth, improve the spacing, create better proportions and place the teeth in a more favorable position before moving into the final restorative phase.

Once the orthodontic phase was complete, we whitened the lower natural teeth and completed the case with eight custom feldspathic porcelain veneers.

The result is a smile that is healthier, brighter, more balanced and more harmonious — not because we rushed to the finish line, but because we respected the process.

Health first.
Alignment second.

The patient came to us with existing dentistry that no longer reflected the smile she wanted to share with the world. Revision cases require more than simply replacing porcelain. They require listening, planning, understanding the face, the smile, the bite and the person behind it all.

For us, dentistry should never feel transactional.

We are honored and excited to welcome Dr. Jibri Muhammad — known to us as Dr. J — to Inspired Dentistry of Charlotte.

Dr. J is a proud native of Atlanta, Georgia, and brings with him a genuine love for people, a thoughtful approach to dentistry and a strong commitment to service.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Howard University and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. During dental school, he was deeply involved in community outreach, serving through initiatives such as student-run volunteer clinics, Give Kids a Smile Day, MOM clinics, the Boys & Girls Club, the Salvation Army and several health fair programs.

His academic excellence and commitment to service have also been recognized through several honors, including the Dental Alumni Scholarship, the SNDA Scholarship, the Dental Foundation of North Carolina Scholarship and the prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship.

But beyond the accomplishments, what has impressed me most is the person.

I have been getting to know and vetting Dr. J since last fall, and I could not be more pleased to have him join our team. He is kind, thoughtful, talented with his hands and grounded in integrity. He takes time to educate and inform. He is excellent with our guests. And he has brought a refreshing energy into our practice.

At Inspired Dentistry, we take very seriously who we invite to care for the people who trust us. Dr. J represents the values we believe in: excellence, humility, service, character and genuine care for others.

Outside of dentistry, he enjoys muscle cars and spending time outdoors, where he finds balance and inspiration.

Sometimes dentistry is about fixing teeth.

Others are about changing how someone feels when they walk into one of the biggest moments of their life.

This patient came to us just months before her wedding. She already had four porcelain veneers, but time had taken its toll. They were beginning to chip, the gums had receded, and the margins where the porcelain met her natural teeth had become visible.

Initially, we discussed replacing those four veneers.

But Inspired Dentistry isn't about replacing what was there. It's about creating what could be.

Together, we decided to design 10 veneers instead. That allowed us to create a smile with better balance, fuller buccal corridors, and proportions that complemented her face rather than simply her teeth.

I started with a diagnostic wax-up to establish the vision. On preparation day, I removed the existing veneers, prepared the additional teeth, and fabricated custom chairside provisionals. Before she left, I photographed everything—not because the temporaries were finished, but because every great result deserves honest critique.

At her refinement appointment, we agreed her two central incisors needed a little more length. As we refined those changes, we also extended that harmony into the neighboring teeth. That subtle adjustment made all the difference.

Once we knew we had it right, we captured every detail with a 3D scan and detailed photography so our ceramist could reproduce the exact contours, line angles, edge position, and shade we'd created together.
