Wirelign® is an orthodontic technique developed by Dr. Benjamin Cassalia. The technique utilizes small segments of super-elastic nickel titanium wires, similar to the wires used in typical orthodontic bracket systems. The wires are placed strategically on the lingual surface of the teeth (behind the teeth) and activated to produce the desired tooth movement. Since no braces are used, the process is significantly more comfortable.

Understanding the principles of interceptive orthodontic treatment and its benefits.
Problems that will eventually need orthodontic attention can become obvious long before a child has all of their permanent teeth. Retention is an important part of the orthodontic process. When orthodontic treatment is complete, maintaining the teeth in their new position is crucial throughout one’s lifetime. Many different factors can influence tooth movement and a long-term retention plan should be part of your treatment.
Typically, removable retainers are used to maintain the teeth in their new position. In some cases, fixed retention may be recommended. Fixed retainers are wires that are bonded to the lingual (behind the tooth) surface of the anterior teeth. They can be used in conjunction with removable retainers and are an excellent option in certain cases. They are also and excellent option in cases where compliance related issues with removable retainers is a concern. Fixed retainers do require maintenance. It is important to discuss your retention options with your orthodontist before the treatment process.
The following presentation will describe the process and applications of fixed orthodontic retainers.
