Fischer have been providing exceptional dental care in the Centreville area for over 25 years! Dr. Charles Fischer is originally from Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology from Michigan State University in 1981 and graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. After graduation, he was accepted into and received certification from an accredited genera

l practice residency with the Veterans Administration. This program provided extensive postgraduate training in the areas of periodontics (gum disease), endodontics (root canal therapy), prosthodontics (crown and bridges), and oral surgery. He also received extensive postgraduate training in orthodontics, endodontics, laser treatment, sleep dental medicine, and implant dentistry. Dr. Fischer received his fellowship with Academy of General Dentistry in 1994. He has also been a scientific presenter at the Maryland Dental Association. Dr. Fischer is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, the International Association of Orthodontics, the American Association of Functional Orthopedics and Orthodontics, the Northern Virginia Implant Society, and the World Clinical Laser Institute. He is also a past-president of the USDI Northern Virginia Orthodontic Study Club. When not providing care for his patients, Dr. Fischer enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also enjoys golf, skiing, scuba diving, and cycling. At Dr. Fischer’s office, we believe everyone should enjoy good health. General and cosmetic dentistry can help you maintain your teeth in health, comfort, and function. Improve your self-image by having the smile you want. Everyone notices a smile: now you can have one that people remember. Originally from Michigan, Dr. Katherine Fischer graduated with her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. She then attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1985. Dr. Fischer was certified in General Dentistry after her residency program in General Practice at the Hospital Center at West Virginia University. This residency provided her with extensive postgraduate training in various areas of dentistry, including cosmetic dentistry, periodontics, laser treatment, implant dentistry, and sedation dentistry. Dr. Fischer has welcomed her comprehensive education in same-day crown design and fabrication as well, allowing us to provide a service to patients that few in the area can claim. In 1994, she received her fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Fischer has volunteered for many years as part of the Virginia Dental Health Foundation, traveling to rural and underserved areas to provide free dental care for indigent residents. She was featured in an issue of a national publication after volunteering in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In addition, she is a member of a number of professional organizations and associations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Northern Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Implant Society, the Virginia Dental Association, the World Clinical Laser Institute, and the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. When she is not helping her patients improve their smiles, Dr. Fischer enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She also is fond of scuba diving, skiing, traveling, spending time at the gym, gardening, and making pottery in her free time.

Your initial consultation is an opportunity for you to learn more about the practice you've narrowed your search to and express your thoughts on what you like and dislike about your smile. It's also a good moment to set realistic treatment expectations.

Cosmetic consultations typically include records gathering. Because these records are essential for developing a unique and precise treatment plan to satisfy your needs, much time may be spent on this purpose. Gathering records entails, but is not limited to:

1. A thorough intraoral examination and assessment of any existing dental work.
2. Intraoral photographs
3. Radiographs (X-rays)
4. Upper and lower tooth impressions (models and study casts will be made later).
5. Exploring smile design books
6. Review various tooth shapes and sizes to find what appeals to you.
7. Discussing tooth color
8. Using a computer monitor, review your smile tooth by tooth so you can thoroughly understand what can be changed and how.

Dear Valued Patient,

We have enjoyed getting to know you and your families over the years and have been thankful for your support. We appreciate the trust you have put in us, and providing you with the best possible dental health care has been our top priority.

We want to inform you of some upcoming changes in the office. We have decided to seek colleagues which will allow us to spend more time visiting with our family and pursue other activities. We will practice on a limited basis while giving the new colleagues an opportunity to grow their vision. We know that you and your families will have all your dental needs met in the familiar, caring office you are accustomed to.

We have built a special practice here at Fischer Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, so it was a difficult process finding the right doctors to continue our legacy. Although there will be some new faces, rest assured that the staff you know will be there to help you as they always have. That being said, we are excited to introduce you to Dr. Morgan Glaze and Dr. Curtis Henderson. They met during their residency training at Harvard where they learned that they shared the same approaches and values in oral health, and became great friends. After each decided to move to the Northern Virginia area with their families, they knew they had to form a partnership. We wish them all the best and are excited for you to meet them.

Yours truly,
Dr’s Fischer

Here are five useful tips to MAXIMIZE YOUR 2022 DENTAL BENEFITS

1. KEEP UP WITH PREVENTIVE CARE
Many dental insurance plans allow you to attend two cleanings and checkups each year at little to no out of pocket cost. Preventive appointments help your mouth feel clean & fresh and catch oral health problems before they become serious.

2. SCHEDULE RESTORATIVE TREATMENT ASAP
Dental insurance plans do not provide the same level of coverage for every treatment. While they offer robust coverage for preventive care, if things worsen major procedures might cover just 50%-80% of the cost.

3. REMEMBER THAT BENEFITS DO NOT ROLL OVER
Most insurance plans operate on a calendar-year basis. At the end of the year, unused benefits expire. Hence, if you know you need a specific treatment, the time to schedule it is now — before your 2022 policy ends.

4. BE STRATEGIC WITH MAJOR PROCEDURES
Some major dental procedures take place across multiple appointments. Ask your dental team if you can schedule it between 2022 and 2023. You might be able to use two annual maximums rather than just one.

5. UTILIZE YOUR FSA
If you have flexible spending account (FSA) through your employer. Most FSAs expires at the end of the calendar year. Use them before they expire.

At Fischer Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we are happy to work with most types of insurance and we provide reasonably priced, top-quality care, contact us at (703) 552-4007.

Brushing and flossing your teeth, as well getting regular dental check-ups are important for excellent oral health, but did you know that your food can have an effect on your teeth and gums?

Here are vitamins to add to your diet for strong teeth and healthy gums:
• Vitamin C - maintains the health and strength of the connective tissues of your gums, which hold your teeth in place.
• Calcium - it builds the enamel, which is the protective outer covering of the teeth that protects them from cavities.
