👉Do you know what to do if your kiddo hits their mouth and traumatizes their tooth?

👉The most important thing you can do is remain calm. If there is a lot of blood, do your best to stop the bleeding and identify where the blood is coming from. Soft tissue in the mouth bleeds readily and easily.

👉If you can see trauma to the tooth, give your pediatric dentist a call right away. Many times your dentist will ask you to send a picture so they can assess if you need to bring your child in to the office immediately.

😩What do you do if a permanent tooth gets knocked out? This is VERY different from a baby tooth getting knocked out!

👉First and foremost, stay calm and assess the area of the mouth where the tooth was knocked out.

Clean the area with a warm, wet cloth.

Look for the tooth that was lost to make sure your child didn’t swallow or aspirate the tooth. Gently rinse the tooth with water or saline.

If you find the tooth, reimplant the tooth in the socket immediately!!

Last, contact your dentist as soon as possible and let them know what happened. They will want you to come to the office as soon as possible!

🤣🤣In honor of all the jokes and laughing from April Fools Day, let’s talk about laughing gas!

😂Laughing gas a.k.a nitrous oxide.

🤔What is it?
Nitrous is a colorless, odorless gas that has a sweet smell.

🤔Why do we use it?
Nitrous has an anti-anxiety effect as well as a pain-reducing effect.
It can also help with patients that have a gag reflux.

😯Common questions from parents:
Will my child be asleep? No, your child will be awake while on nitrous. Some children do experience sleepiness.

🤔What will my child feel? Your child may experience a floating feeling with tingling in their extremities.

🤔Is it safe? Yes. Your child will not lose their protective reflexes. Nitrous also gives the provider the ability to easily adjust the amount provided.

Curious why we’re closed on Fridays? Well, every Friday we go to the operating room at St. Luke’s for the kiddos who can’t do treatment in our office!

Dr. Erik and Dr. Beth, along with our assistants, are still the ones doing the dentistry, but this time alongside anesthesiologists and nurses to ensure the safety of our patients!

Last week some of the nurses dressed up our patient’s stuffed animals to make going back to the OR a little more fun!

Join us at Hawkeye Downs Speedway & Expo Center from December 5–21 for a festive, family-friendly experience. Santa Village is packed with FREE activities, local market vendors, and of course… a visit from Santa himself 🎅✨

Be sure to stop by Mrs. Claus’ Cozy Corner—a warm, welcoming space to take a break, snap a photo, and relax. Grab a cup of hot cocoa from the concessions stand, get comfy, and enjoy film favorites created by Iowa-based filmmakers. This cozy corner will be open every night of Santa Village!
