✈️ Myth #1: “Braces will set off airport metal detectors.”

FICTION! The lightweight titanium/stainless steel materials used in modern braces are non-magnetic and will not trigger TSA security scanners. Fly with confidence!

☀️ Myth #2: “It’s fine to leave my aligner case in the hot car.”

FICTION! Extreme summer heat (like a dashboard in July) can warp clear aligners and retainers. Always keep them in a shaded, cool spot or in your bag!

🍦 Myth #3: “I can’t enjoy any summer treats with braces.”

With school out, summer camps active, and daily routines constantly changing, it’s easy for orthodontic habits to slip.

Dr. Clark and the team want to share 3 quick, practical tips to keep your smile transformation moving forward smoothly this summer:

📦 Pack a “Camp Kit”: If your child is heading to day camps or sports clinics, toss a travel toothbrush, a small container of orthodontic wax, and their dedicated aligner or retainer case into their backpack.

🍽️ The Napkin Trap: Remind clear aligner and retainer wearers never to wrap their appliances in a napkin during lunch or snack time. It’s the number one way they accidentally end up in the trash! 🗑️❌

💧 Rinse After Sports Drinks: Staying hydrated during outdoor activities is a must, but sports drinks can be sugary and acidic. If they indulge, a quick rinse with water afterward helps protect the enamel around brackets.

When the summer sun hits, staying hydrated is goal number one. However, Dr. Clark and the team want to make sure your favorite summer drinks aren’t accidentally slowing down your smile progress!

The Summer Sip Guide:

🍋 The Acid Trap: Drinks like lemonade, sweet tea, and sports drinks are great for cooling down, but they are highly acidic and packed with sugars that can weaken enamel around brackets.

☕ Watch the Stains: Iced coffees and dark sodas can easily stain clear aligners or the clear ties on your braces.

💧 The Best Practice: Water is always your smile’s best friend! If you do indulge in a sugary or colored drink, try using a straw to keep it away from your teeth, and give your mouth a quick rinse with water right afterward.

Keep drinking plenty of fluids, keep those aligners clean, and enjoy your weekend!
