Why should you see an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for oral surgery as opposed to seeing your regular dentist? A dentist is a general practitioner of dental health, diagnosing and treating dental diseases. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon specializes in oral surgery, placing dental implants, removing impacted wisdom teeth and much more.

Although both are oral healthcare providers and work together to ensure your oral health, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon pursues extensive education beyond dental school to be able to treat more complex conditions. After getting your wisdom teeth removed, it's important to stick to a soft diet to allow the incision to heal. Some great options include smoothies, mashed potatoes, yogurt, and soups. 🍲 Avoid crunchy, spicy, or chewy foods to prevent irritation. Take it easy and give your mouth time to heal for a smooth recovery!

Dental implants seamlessly integrate with your natural teeth, giving you the ability to smile, eat, and speak normally. Unlike fixed bridges or removable dentures, dental implants likely will not affect neighboring healthy teeth or lead to bone loss in the jaw. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime. If you have a missing tooth, schedule your dental implant consultation today!
