🧵🦷 FAQ: Is Flossing Really Necessary?

Quick Poll! 📊 How often do you floss?

Drop your answer in the comments! 👇

🤔 So… Is Flossing Really Necessary?

Yes! Your toothbrush does a great job cleaning the surfaces of your teeth, but it may not effectively clean the tight spaces between your teeth and along the gumline.

That’s where flossing comes in.

✨ Why Make Flossing Part of Your Routine?

🦷 Removes plaque between teeth where your toothbrush may not reach effectively.

🛡️ Helps prevent cavities that can develop between neighboring teeth.

💗 Supports healthier gums by reducing plaque buildup that can contribute to inflammation and gum disease.

😁 Helps keep your breath fresh by removing trapped food particles and plaque.

⏰ How Often Should You Floss?

For most people, cleaning between the teeth once a day is recommended. Traditional floss isn’t your only option—floss picks, interdental brushes, or water flossers may be helpful depending on your individual needs.

💡 Avalon Tip: If your gums bleed frequently when you floss, don’t simply ignore it. Persistent bleeding can be a sign of gum inflammation and is worth discussing with your dentist.

✨ Brush. Floss. Smile. Repeat. Your daily routine can make a big difference in your long-term oral health!

🦷 7 Signs It’s Time to Visit Your Dentist

Not every dental problem starts with severe pain. Your mouth often gives you warning signs that something needs attention—and catching problems early can help prevent more complicated treatment later.

🚨 Don’t Ignore These 7 Signs:

1️⃣ Persistent Tooth Pain
Pain that doesn’t go away may indicate decay, infection, or a damaged tooth.

2️⃣ Bleeding or Swollen Gums
Frequent bleeding, redness, or swelling can be an early warning sign of gum disease.

3️⃣ Lingering Tooth Sensitivity
Ongoing sensitivity to hot, cold, or sweets deserves a closer look.

4️⃣ Bad Breath That Won’t Go Away
Persistent bad breath may be associated with plaque buildup, gum disease, decay, or other oral health concerns.

5️⃣ A Chipped, Cracked, or Loose Tooth
Even without significant pain, damaged teeth should be evaluated before the problem gets worse.

6️⃣ Jaw Pain or Frequent Headaches
Jaw discomfort, clicking, clenching, or morning headaches may be related to teeth grinding or TMJ concerns.

7️⃣ It’s Been a While Since Your Last Checkup
You don’t need symptoms to benefit from seeing your dentist. Routine exams and professional cleanings can identify problems before you notice them yourself.

💙 Your Smile Is Worth Protecting

Don’t wait until a small concern becomes a dental emergency. If something feels different—or you’re simply overdue for preventive care—schedule a dental evaluation.

🦷 Foods That Help Strengthen Your Teeth 💪⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
A healthy smile starts with more than brushing and flossing. The foods you eat can provide important nutrients that support strong teeth, healthy enamel, and gums.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🥛 Dairy: Milk, Cheese & Yogurt⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Rich in calcium and phosphorus, dairy products provide minerals that help support strong teeth and bones. Choose options with little or no added sugar when possible.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🥬 Leafy Greens⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Spinach, kale, and broccoli provide calcium and other nutrients that support both your teeth and gums.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🐟 Fatty Fish⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Salmon and other fatty fish contain vitamin D, which helps your body absorb and use calcium effectively.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🥚 Eggs⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Eggs provide protein, phosphorus, and vitamin D—nutrients that play important roles in maintaining healthy teeth and bones.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🥕 Crunchy Fruits & Vegetables⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Carrots, celery, and apples encourage chewing and saliva production. Saliva helps rinse away food particles and neutralize acids in your mouth.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
💧 And Don’t Forget Water!⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Water helps wash away food debris and keeps your mouth hydrated. Fluoridated water can also help strengthen enamel and protect against cavities.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
✨ Healthy food choices + brushing + flossing + regular dental visits = a stronger smile for years to come.⁣⁣⠀

🦷 Need a Tooth Pulled? Here’s Everything You Should Know Before a Tooth Extraction⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
The thought of having a tooth removed can be intimidating—but modern tooth extractions are safer and more comfortable than ever. Knowing what to expect can help ease your anxiety and prepare you for a smooth recovery.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🦷 When Is a Tooth Extraction Needed?⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Your dentist may recommend an extraction if you have:⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
✔️ Severe tooth decay⁣⁣⠀
✔️ Advanced gum disease⁣⁣⠀
✔️ A broken or fractured tooth that can’t be repaired⁣⁣⠀
✔️ An impacted wisdom tooth⁣⁣⠀
✔️ A serious dental infection⁣⁣⠀
✔️ Overcrowding before orthodontic treatment⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
😊 What to Expect⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Before your procedure, your dentist will examine your tooth and take digital X-rays. The area will be thoroughly numbed with local anesthesia, so you should feel pressure—but not pain—during the extraction.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🌿 Recovery Tips⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
✅ Bite on gauze as instructed⁣⁣⠀
✅ Eat soft foods for the first few days⁣⁣⠀
✅ Avoid using straws or smoking⁣⁣⠀
✅ Follow your aftercare instructions carefully⁣⁣⠀
✅ Keep your follow-up appointments⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
Most patients return to their normal routine within a few days.⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
🦷 Replacing a Missing Tooth⁣⁣⠀
⁣⁣⠀
After an extraction, your dentist may recommend replacing the missing tooth with a dental implant, bridge, or partial denture to restore your smile and help maintain your oral health.⁣⁣⠀
