Case Study No. 902

This lovely young patient came to us unhappy with the resin bonding on one of her central incisors. Although she had already had it redone several times by different dentists, she still wasn’t satisfied with the result.

After completing a thorough dentofacial analysis, we determined that no additional treatment was necessary beyond replacing the bonding on this single tooth.

We carefully refined its shape, texture, translucency, and subtle natural details to create greater harmony and symmetry with the adjacent teeth.

This conservative approach avoided the need for more invasive treatment while giving her the natural result she wanted and deserved.

One tooth. A subtle change. And most importantly, a smile she can finally feel confident sharing.

Yesterday I had a great opportunity to speak with dental students from BU, Harvard, and Tufts. On my way there, I stumbled across the Ether Monument in the Public Garden.

The timing felt especially fitting. Dr. William T. G. Morton, a Boston dentist, helped introduce ether anesthesia to surgery, transforming dentistry and medicine forever. I’ve passed this monument countless times, but on a day spent with the next generation of dentists, it felt especially meaningful to be reminded of the legacy our profession carries.

Later, I had the privilege of spending time with those future dentists. I went in thinking I was there to teach, but walked away having learned just as much from them. Their curiosity, perspectives, and genuine enthusiasm gave me even more hope for our profession.

I’m so proud of our profession. If you’re a dentist reading this please join the ADA. Together we’re strong.

Even after all these years I’m still amazed by the thoughtfulness of my team and the countless ways they go above and beyond for our patients.

A completely prepless, single-wing Maryland bridge case to replace congenitally missing lateral incisors. No tooth preparation was performed, and no enamel was reduced.
Understanding a patient’s occlusion, or how the teeth come together and function during chewing, can open the door to more conservative treatment options. In the right case, thoughtful treatment planning can help us restore what’s missing while preserving healthy, natural tooth structure and avoiding unnecessary drilling.
